Suspensions handed down, reason behind Youk/Manny spat

The recap:

  • Coco Crisp — 7 games for dodging Floyd Mayweather Jr.’s haymaker. Richie Sexson didn’t get hit and threw his helmet at the pitcher and only got five. Why does Coco get seven?
  • Jon Lester — 5 games for unspecified reasons (hitting Carl Crawford with a curve? Uncorking a fastball at Willy Aybar?)
  • Sean Casey — 3 games for his role (although he’s the nicest player in the game)
  • Jonny Gomes — 5 games for raining blows on Coco
  • Edwin Jackson — 5 games for who knows
  • Carl Crawford — 4 games for being an idiot
  • Akinori Iwamura — 3 games for trying to get revenge
  • James Shields — 6 games, standard for starters. Admitted to hitting Coco on purpose

The Manny Ramirez and Kevin Youkilis altercation was because of the way Kevin Youkilis reacted to a poor call during his at-bat. Manny said he doesn’t like how Youkilis yells, throws helmets, etc. And “other players have told Youkilis in the past about the situation, which makes him look selfish and that he is more worried about each at-bat than about the team. If Boston is winning easily, there’s no reason to throw objects all over the dugout because of a bad at-bat,” said a source to ESPN.

In other news, Jacoby Ellsbury is fine and is available to pinch-run tonight.

    CASEY??? WTF???

Crawford should’ve gotten at least 7. He threw more punches than anyone.

    Ridiculous.

WTF on Casey, Lester, Jackson and Aki getting a single game at all?

Crisp should get fewer or Crawford and Gomes more. Bull-puckey almost all around.

I didn’t see Lester do ANYTHING. And why do players get suspended for merely pulling players off a pile (Sean Casey)?

    Whatever.

After looking at the replays again I do see Sean throw a few punches at Edwin Jackson who was PUNCHING DeMarlo Hale!

    One question:

HOW THE HELL DOES COCO GET SEVEN IF JONNY GOMES ONLY GOT 5??? I know Coco charged the mound and started the thing, but how is standing over a pinned guy and raining blows on him worth only five games.

I can’t figure out what Casey was suspended for either, by the way. FWIW, I didn’t see Edwin Jackson do anything either.

And Carl Crawford definitely deserved more than that for being an idiot.

It should be over with this. Any bets?

Can see where the team is coming from to a degree with Youk…like You and glad he is competitive but he does not seem to do himself or the team any favors with the Umps and hate the incredulous faces after every strikeout….he looks like an asshole.

Evan, apparently Floyd Mayweather Jr read my post or saw Coco as a threat to his defense first, light offensive attack…announced his retirement from boxing tonight. Wish I got to see Cotto get a shot at him.

I’ve got no problem with Manny calling Youk out on his bullshit. He is rapidly becoming our version o f Paul O’Neill.

Intense? Fine. A hothead throwing bats all over the dugout after missing your pitch? Get a grip.

I am mistaken or did Lister hit one Rays player and throw behind two others? That’s why he got the suspension.

Can’t say I have a problem with any of the suspensions, even Lester. We’ll just push Colon up one day and start Lester on normal rest. No big deal. This hurts Tampa a lot more than us.

Youkilis and Pedroia are the two biggest crybabies in baseball, and it’s not even close. This isn’t a new development. It’s about time someone said something.

Wow, Frank and Mr. F, it is certainly good to hear some player bashing, especially about Youk and Pedroia. They really are intense, aren’t they. Kinda makes you wish they’d just chill, not swing so hard, not run out ground balls and popouts, not dive for the ball so much or dig them out of the dirt, not take it so personally when they strike out instead of driving in another run, and not take the game so seriously. Really. All this winning is just so very boring. All those silly people paying such close attention to what is just a game, when they could be sitting around gossiping.
