Haren outduels Beckett

Dan Haren went 7 innings and only surrendered two hits as the Red Sox have now dropped three out of their four home games losing to the D-Backs 2-1.

J.D. Drew had the only RBI for Boston in the eighth hitting a sacrifice fly to make it 2-1.

Josh Beckett went 8 innings, giving up five hits, two runs, two walks, and struck out eight.

Goat of the Game:  Only thing I can think of

Not that I am placing the whole game on Tek, but striking out in the seventh with two men in scoring position is not how you win games.

Next Game:  Can we just be healthy?

Man Youk took a bad one tonight.  Let's hope that clears up for tomorrow.

It was on this site that, as the pre-season trades of would-be-Titan pitchers were discussed (Santana, Bedard, Haren, Harden, Blanton, Willis, Lieber, Glavine, Garza, Silva) that many believed Haren may be the best of the lot. Tonight, IMO, confirmed that belief.

Something is wrong with Tek. Did he ever fully recover from the flu, strep, trip-fatigue and injury? In terms of goat, he was one of our few who broke through tonite with a hit. Once again, no on delivered. Another unlucky game.

I don't think there was a Goat in this one. Nothing the offense could do; it was Haren's night in the spotlight. Which I, as a Haren fan, strangely didn't enjoy very much.

there's nothing wrong with Tek, he is just a 36 year old catcher on the decline. But seriously, if Boras wants more than a 2 year contract for him,i would rather have Kevin Cash...

DR is right - when the opposing pitcher goes 1-2-3 in 5 of the 7 innings he pitches, you have to give to goat award to the whole team and give credit to Haren.

As for Tek - his hitting has become so poor that I'm starting to think it's time we made him a coach and got him off the roster...

I have to pick a goat when we lose. Just the format. Haren was down right filthy and I like those baseball games better than that of MLB Slugfest material.
