Pepsi's TRIVIA: Youk's debut
The last trivia question asked for the first player to hit for the cycle in both leagues, who was a Red Sox. The answer was Bob Watson in 1979. He hit .337/.401/.548 after coming over in a trade June 13th for Pete Ladd, Bobby Sprowl and cash. He then became a free agent and signed with the Yankees. Leaderboard is updated. The new trivia question:
When Kevin Youkilis was called up from Triple-A to make his debut (remember the air high-fives after his first homer in Toronto), who was optioned to Triple-A to make room for him? (I love that I'm doing this while sitting in the airport and waiting for a delayed flight.)
I honestly haven't a clue, but I have nothing better to do (thanks, United...freaking 3 hour delay), so I figured I'd try to do a little research without violating the honor code (box scores and Youk's player card are OK, right?).
His player card says that Youk's debut was on May 15th, 2004, when Bill Mueller was hurt. So, that probably means the Sox would've sent down an extra reliever instead of a position player since sending down a bench guy would essentially cancel out the effect of bringing Youk up.
Looking at the box scores of the days prior to that, it looks like Mark Malaska was the mop-up man and got knocked around.
So, I'll take a wild guess and say Malaska. Though for some reason, I remember Byung-Hyun Kim being sent down around that same time, so it could very well be him.
C'mon United, get me on my way already.

Damn you Rathman. It was Malaska. Never thought I would learn anything from Boston Dirt Dogs.
