BOS 12, OAK 2: Bay fitting right in

Well it has not taken Jason Bay a long time to fit in with the Boston Red Sox as he launched a three-run homer, Kevin Youkilis homered twice, every Red Sox hitter had a hit, and finally Jon Lester won his seventh straight decision.

Whoever complained about the Sox getting Bay may have completely shut up after tonight's game.

Star of the Game: Lester

He has been on a roll, has been the stopper for us in a couple of his past starts and is still under the radar. Well, not here he isn't especially when Lester goes seven, only giving up two runs on one walk, seven hits, and five strikeouts.

Next Game: Sweep?

Let's grab a sweep here and then go trounce Kansas City.  Who is with me?

Looks like Lester will easily surpass my prediction of 15 wins and a 3.9 era from before the season. As important as Bay contributing right away has been I think Lowrie could potentially be the bigger story. I think you know you are going to get 30 homerun power from Bay, perhaps more with the Monste/Fenway being in play now. Lowrie was not exactly tearing up Pawtucket although he was solid, but he definitely has the potential to get on base and give us a a much needed boost at the bottom of the line-up. Varitek, while I am not expecting a tear, is at least making solid contact and his approach seems better at the plate. Less turning over on the ball and generating weak grounders and infield pops, I'm sure he will continue to K too much. If Lowrie can continue to hit, if Varitek can hit .250 the rest of the way, and Ellsbury can not be much worse then he has been the past two months...hopefully the bottom of the line-up can give us something on occasion which will be better then the nothing we have gotten for so long.
