2008 July: A month of change
July was certainly a month of change... none more so than the end of the month. Manny Ramirez long overstayed his welcome in Boston, and he was long due to move on to (in his opinion) greener pastures. Let's take a glance back at the month that was... To the Fire Branders: who on this table do you think will not be on the August month to month, and why? Who will be on the August table? Why? Click "read more" to check out the Month to Month...

NOTES |

12.0/3.75/1.67 12.2/2.13/1.26 10.2/3.38/1.31 |
2.1/0.00/1.71 |
He unfortunately got hurt in mid-July, but his 2.75 ERA cumulatively is sexy. Still walks a million. |
|
|
26.1/4.10/0.95 40.2/4.43/1.18 34.0/2.38/1.18 |
2-3 31.1/5.74/1.53 |
Yikes! He didn't have that hot of a July, but his other three months were ace-like. |
|
Clay Buchholz |
28.2/4.08/1.26 13.2/8.56/2.41 dnp june |
0-3 21.1/6.75/1.78 |
The numbers aren't pretty on the face of it, but he has pitched better than the stats show. Baby steps. |

Sean Casey |

This guy can hit. |

.294/.400/.353 |
Cora's been pretty marginalized this year and amid reports of declining range, don't be surprised if we choose not to bring him back next year. |

Coco Crisp |
.291/.310/.354 .209/.264/.388 .310/.359/.521 |
.167/.300/.238 |
Hey Coco, if you want to be traded, you need to pump UP your trade value, not pump it DOWN. |

Manny Delcarmen |
10.2/6.75/1.50 10.1/3.48/1.55 12.0/2.25/0.75 |

MDC's making noise again as a reliable set-up man. |
|
|
.269/.376/.410 .296/.390/.408 .337/.462/.848 |
.221/.361/.442 |
The average took a nosedive, but his OBP stayed steady and he still showed power. When he starts getting hits falling in, he'll be back to a force. |

Lots of promise, just didn't deliver. Maybe he will for Pittsburgh, but will anyone care? |
|

35.2/3.79/1.49 36.1/2.97/1.21 32.2/3.03/1.29 |

I've run out of superlatives for this guy. |

9.0/5.00/1.67 9.0/2.00/1.22 12.0/0.75/1.17 |
10.0/3.60/1.80 |
Stumbled a bit in July (.351 BAA) but certainly has quieted all his detractors. |
|
Mike Lowell |
.138/.219/.172 .301/.341/.558 .351/.425/.608 |
.215/.286/.290 |
Erm... yikes. Yeah, he says he's been playing hurt since the Break. Still not pretty... remember, he's now our cleanup hitter. |
|
Julio Lugo |
.267/.305/.300 .262/.390/.328 .260/.372/.377 |
.259/.323/.259 |
Rejoice: All signs point to Lowrie or someone else being the SS in 2009. Lowrie hit .222/.310/.250 in July. |
|
Daisuke Matsuzaka |
30.2/2.35/1.04 28.1/2.54/1.55 6.0/10.50/2.33 |
2-1 30.2/2.64/1.37 |
Take a look at the WHIP. Progress? |

Methinks he's going to be huge out of the bullpen. |

David Ortiz |

Yep. April was the abberation. |

30 saves so far and we're already getting spoiled by how much of a machine he is. |
|
Dustin Pedroia |
.306/.352/.423 .260/.295/.374 .356/.407/.545 |
.350/.398/.485 |
Drop it like it's hot. |
|
Manny Ramirez |

Enough's been said. |

7.2/1.17/0.78 |
Now that's more like it! |
|
Jason Varitek |
.273/.324/.485 .299/.407/.506 .122/.205/.176 |
.197/.293/.288 |
Are we witnessing the demise of Jason Varitek as a starting catcher? |
|
|
31.0/4.06/1.48 36.0/5.25/1.31 35.0/2.31/1.00 |
1-3 32.2/4.13/1.02 |
Perhaps the most under-the-radar performer of the year. |
|
Kevin Youkilis |
.316/.391/.495 .300/.343/.600 .337/.415/.554 |

Good start to the second half. Keep. it. up. |

I'm gonna agree w/ Sean and say we are in trouble if Mikey is our clean up hitter. If he's hurt, put Youk there and Casey at first.

Man, Casey has rocked this year. Too bad this will most likely net him a starting gig somewhere else next year...

I'm confused, is this July or June? Because Lowell is hitting .215 .286 .290 .576 in July, which is a hell of a lot different from what you have listed. Also, he sucks.

Hansen took the loss in Pittsburgh yesterday, didn't pitch too badly, but he walked a crucial batter and he still sucks.

Whoops, everyone is July burt I must have overlooked Lowell becaues he is June. I'll fix it ASAP.
He doesn't suck, he's hurt.

Are we really supposed to feel better that our #4 hitter who is signed for 3 years can't stay healthy for any amount of time? Bench him, DFA him, just stop playing him.

We should do that to give Mike a break and call up Thurston. Need Lowell healthy for when it matters.
