J.D. Drew to DL, instant replay begins Thursday

J.D. Drew has been placed on the disabled list with his herniated disk and the Sox have recalled Joe Thurston from Pawtucket to serve as the backup infielder.

Boy, our team is getting hit hard by injuries.

Also, instant replay is starting on Thursday. A brief refresher: There are videos that the umpires will see from the war room in New York and the crew chief will then make the final call.

It's hard to follow who is up and down any more:

Bailey did great tonight, both with 2 hits and on D at first, and he won MVP in the I.L. today. Yet another rookie shines at Fenway. Are Pauley or Smith still up? We will need them tomorrow after using 5 RP's tonight. If Thurston can keep his wits about him at Yankee Stadium, he will play solid D, hit well (he was 2nd in the I.L. in BA), steal some bases, and he can play the OF too.

I wonder if anyone will be left in Pawtucket to play the Yankees in the playoffs, which they have clinched, largely due to Bailey, Thurston, Pauley, ,Zinc and Carter.
