POLL: Waiver Wire Impact
In the latest edition of the Firebrand poll, we asked: If the Red Sox are to make the playoffs and succeed in October, which one of the following struggling players absolutely must right his ship?:
- Josh Beckett
74% of all votes
- Jacoby Ellsbury
12% of all votes
- Jason Varitek
9% of all votes
- Julio Lugo
3% of all votes
- Clay Buccholz
2% of all votes
Hmmm...Given your responses, coupled with the Beckett's trip to Dr. James Andrews, there should be an inkling of concern in Red Sox Nation about this team's World Series prospects.
On to the new poll. Much has been written about Theo's ability to make the critical waiver wire deal to fill needed roles on this team down the stretch run.
Which new waiver addition or September call up will have most impact down the stretch?
- Paul Byrd
- Mark Kotsay
- Michael Bowden
- David Pauley
- Hunter Jones
- Jason Lane

I'm going with Byrd -- Kotsay is depth, so is everyone else not named Byrd. We're leaning on Paulie.

Pauley I have no idea so I'm throwing my hat in with Byrd.

Byrd here too, we need a veteran guy like him throwing quality starts every 5 days to keep us rolling.
Not to jinx anyone, I don't trust anyone not named Jon Lester. Wake is unpredictable, Dice-K's BB habits are going to catch up to him and Mr. #5 Starting Pitcher is an unknown at this point. Best case scenario is that Colon goes back to his Cy Young days. Worst case...(::shudders::).
