8/30: Bowden Debuts

Prev. Gm:

Chicago White Sox (76-58) @ Boston Red Sox (78-56)

Mark Buehrle (11-10, 3.86) @ Michael Bowden (0-0, -.--)

7:05 PM EDT | Fenway Park (Boston, MA)

TV: NESN RADIO: WRKO 680, SBN 1150

GAME NOTES: Well, looks like our downtime has been delayed, and we're not positive it's happening this weekend anymore. Long story short and I don't want to point the finger at anyone, but rest assured that we here at MVN had nothing to do with this delay. Michael Bowden toes the hill, 21 years of age. Let's see what he's got.

"Dustin Pedroia gets the honor tonight [of batting cleanup]. The reason? Terry Francona indicated with Kevin Youkilis suffering from the flu to go along with Coco Crisp and Josh Beckett on the team sick bed, that he wanted to create a lineup that would be tough for the White Sox bullpen to counter. Francona said he's taking a lot of grief from both Pedroia and David Ortiz over the lineup, Pedroia who keeps saying, "It's about time" and Ortiz, who jokingly said he will retire."

Extra Bases.

Love it ... You know Pedro is eating this up ... just what he needs ... more confidence lol ... but hey as long as the little man is hitting ... why not let him clean up?

He's unstoppable.....call him Superman...is there anything he can't do?

Why didn't we think of Superman batting cleanup before?

I'm with you on calling him Superman. That slide into 2nd was incredible.

Buchholz was awsome today, his line:

Buchholz (W 1-0)- 8.0, 2H, 0ER, 10-1 K/BB, 9-5 GO/FO

I was talking baseball with a friend of mine who is a Cubs fan a couple of weeks ago and he asked me, "Does Dustin Pedroia ever make an out?"

wow ... 8-8 ... whats the record on that? consecutive hits I mean ... I'd be curious ... if anyone could break it it would be Pedroia ... cause when he's hot ... he's damn smokin hot lol

This game went very well ... I was happy with Bowden ... looked good on a fairly limited pitch count I'm sure ... hopefully he can keep helping us down the stretch

Let's finish a sweep for once ... Go Sox!

Whoa Buck really did throw down tonight. Have they told him to go back to his original arm slot?

His original arm alot did seem much better to me, his pitches complimented each other much better. I don't think it should have been about using a different arm slot to control his fastball, but rather learn to control his fastball with his original mechanics.

I think it's about confidence, really... he's shown that he can absolutely maul the minors. He's just challenged in the majors and is not so confident.

In ST, the hope was for Papi, Manny, an energized JD, and WSMVP Mike do the heavy lifting.

JD certainly did his part when Papi went down.

And J.Bay and Kotsay have been like miracles.

But for my money, Pedroia and Youk should be pushed as Co-MVP's because they have been incredible in keeping us playoff eligible. These two guys together have done it all: Youk's "D" at 1st and 3rd, BA, OPS, HR, RBI, no swoon . . . a fully matured star; Pedroia's "D" at 2nd, BA, OPS, Hits, Runs and value added SB's, HR's, RBI's. They both deserve it, together.

And next year in the rotation: Buchholz, Bowden, Lester??? Awesome.

Pedroia is a fucking beast...enough said. I'm so glad I believed in him since his start in 2007.

Hey, not to be a downer, but I was at the Buccholz game in Portland...his line is deceiving. Granted, I was sitting at a funny angle (sorta behind the away team's on deck circle)...but from where I was, it really looked like Clay got away with throwing a lot of junk...kind of these flat low curveballs that guys in the majors would have no trouble laying off. He occasionally hit some spots with his fastball (which seemed to hover in the low 90s), but for the most part, he didn't look all that sharp.

I'm sure he'll be ok... think he would be better served taking his lumps in the show next season when we're not in the heat of a pennant race.
