yeah, bats haven't inspired too much confidence in me so far... Lester can't afford to let a single run score, because we won't score more than 3

The offense is going to lean on Drew and Bay because no one else seems capable of doing anything

Jeez, I didn't even have time to type "Two on, one out, Kotsay, then Lowrie. Looks like we won't score this inning." Nice job, Kotsay.

"Plate Discipline" Look it up.

I'm trying really really hard, but I can't feel good about the rest of this series with the way this offense has been, they were lucky to win the first two games, looks like the luck has run out

You're right, this team just doesn't have the offense to do it. And with Beckett clearly not 100% they don't have the pitching either.

No offense, mediocre starting pitching (after Lester), erratic bullpen, injured veterans... other than that, no problems at all...

I just opened my liquor cabinet for the first time in a month (had been cutting back, but hey it's the playoffs now) and found a bottle of Patron that I forgot I had. I would love it if the Red Sox could win so I could drink a little bit (Patron is strictly for celebrations)

Will all those who gave up in the late innings please apologize to all of us who don't hate on any player who doesn't either get a hit every single time up or strike out every single opposing batter? Seriously, I don't mind those who boo a bad performance, but the over the top hatred displayed by some Boston fans for every single little mistake is unseemly. I guess now that Masterson, Okajima, Francona, Pedroia, and anyone else in the 'pen other than Papelbon, and anyone else other than Lester in the rotation, all should be, what? Thrown into the Charles? And Papi doesn't play anymore? Really?

And even with 2 pitchers and and a manager more stupid than Sarah Palin we somehow find ourselves in the ALCS for the 4th time in 6 years. Amazing.

Chris, those of us who complain don't hate the players, we just get caught up in the moment. I apologize for my over the top behavior, but understand that I was under the influence of both baseball and alcohol. I think that most of the people who are here regularly can attest that I'm usually pretty level-headed. (I hope)

Chris makes a good point. If any of the players that are regularly threated with death during the games happen to read these comments, they will don flack jackets and look for a Brinks truck to take them out of town. Sounds like Yankee fans, heat of the moment or not.

Masterson is a miracle, from AA to being Monsterson. He is a kid who can screw up, just like the big guys. Fellow rookie Longoria went 0 - 4 today and won anyway, just like Justin.

Oki and MDC have fully redeemed themselves . . . not perfect, but neither are the best relievers from the CWS, Angels, Twins, Cubs, Mets, etc.

MVP Pedroia and MVP Youk carried us to the ALDS and wore themselves out doing so. We support them during their down times because Boston fans are smart fans and understand baseball.

Tek, Wake, Timlin are miracles at the other end of the age spectrum. Still doing what they are doing, and doing it so well, and passing on such knowledge to the young Lesters and Mastersons is what makes the Sox great. Talk about leaving it on the field tonite, Tek. Wow!

The post-All-Star Red Sox have become a team. The post-season Red Sox find ways to win. Look out Tampa, you haven't experienced anything like this before.

Thank you Gerry for your great post. I am embarrassed to be a Boston fan after reading the comments left on this blog. Sean O....what have you possibly done in your lifetime that gives you the right to say such ridiculous things about guys like Masterson. These guys go out there and work hard for 162+ games and are playing against the best competition in the WORLD and you are siting at home like a jackass making fun of the team that you supposedly support?!?! Some of these guys...i.e. Masterson, are under 25 years old. What were you doing when you were 25??? I guarantee you weren't pitching in the ALDS against Vlad with millions of people watching. It's fine that you have your opinions about who you would like to be in the game, but a little respect for these guys would go a long way. I used to think that Boston had pretty classy fans, but Sean O., you are proving me wrong.

I love Malden, Colin. I wouldn't wander over to the Everett side more than need be, but staying downtown shouldn't be a problem.

Sox Fan, tldr.
