BOS 3, LAA 2: Lowrie, Sox headed to ALCS
Jed Lowrie got another chance to punch Boston's ticket to the ALCS, and this time around, Lowrie delivered.
Tied 2-2 in the bottom of the ninth, Lowrie lined a single to right field and Jason Bay slid into home safely to score the game winning run.
Bay had doubled earlier in the inning to right field.
Star of the Game: Jon Lester
7 shutout innings of pitching against the Angels No. 1 pitcher John Lackey deserves the nod here. Lester only gave up four hits and struck out four.
Next series: HEADED TO TAMPA
Hey, just a thought. Being the team without home field advantage might benefit us here.
Just a thought.

In regards to my home field advantage thought.
Think about it. Split one in Tampa and have the possibility to take three at Fenway.
I like the chances.

The reaction from non-sox fans is hilarious. Everybody is cutting themselves over the Red Sox advancing to the ALCS. poor babies :(
... I love it.

I wish that NY schmuck with the Beat Boston shirt was in Fenway and the camera would pan to where he would be sitting. I would've paid to see his reaction.
We won't go down that easily NY, LA, and Tampa.

Amazing game ... I have so many thoughts about it I can't hardly even begin to express it ... Lowrie ... Bay ... Pedroia ... Varitek ... a fantastic game ... but of course it all ends where it began ... with Lester ... he is our Ace and he pitched like it tonight ... He owned this series plain and simple
Now let's bring on the Rays! I'm excited about this matchup ... it's gonna be extremely interesting and very hard-fought ... I'm not gonna begin to think about scenarios and projections tonight though ... Let's enjoy the fact we just beat the best regular season team in the AL and look strong to defened our title ... Go Sox!

SWEET!!!
Finally, I can officially say: RIP, Rally Monkey.
Now that that's over with...here's a question:
Lester would be on 3 days rest, so Dice-K or Beckett in Game 1 of the ALCS? And, going beyond that, Lester or the other in Game 2?
I'd throw Dice out there for the opener, follow with Lester, and then Beckett in Game 3.
Thoughts?

I agree Dan, I think that you keep Lester on regular rest so as not to mess with his rhythm. Tito doesn't like like to throw pitchers on short rest in the playoffs unless absolutely necessary so I have no doubt that we'll see the Dice man in game 1. But Lester would be on regular rest for game 2 and should definitely be used then. Beckett should pitch game 3 as it will give him a little more time to rest the oblique since he's clearly not 100%. I haven't looked at the schedule yet, but I expect to see Wake for game 4 (100% guarantee if it isn't do or die)

Okay fine DR ... I said I wouldn't but I can't help it lol
I agree with you on that pitching setup for the next series ... Dice is good on the road so you let him open up ... You let Beckett pitch 3 at home ... Wake in 4 ... and then you still get Lester-Beckett in 6-7 on the road (if necessary) ... we get the chance to finish very strong that way
The only change I see possible is maybe switching Beckett and Lester ... that way you get Lester in 7 (which honeslty I fully expect) ... and you get Beckett out of Fenway (I think he could use the motivation of an opposing crowd)
I expect Beckett to rebound (we still need him to) ... and Lester to continue ... I think Dice-K is going to turn in one solid start as well ... and Wake ... well you never know with him ... but all in all ... I think we are looking strong as far as pitching goes ... its gonna be hell of a lot of fun thats for sure ... Lets do it

FREE WAKEFIELD. Give Tim a start in game 2 at the dome. He's certainly more trustworthy than Matsuzaka right now. Beckett, meanwhile. has a ton to prove after whateverthehell he did last night.

Sean may be right here. Wake normally dominates at the dome, and has some geting even of his own to do right now. But we will need Lester 2x.

Unless you want Wake to pitch 2x rather than Beckett (Don't even think about it) ... than I think you have to line it up like this
DiceK
Wake
Lester
Beckett
DiceK
Lester
Beckett
Of course in this situation Lester and Becks would be going on short rest in 6 and 7 ... otherwise you have Wake-Lester without Beckett again ... plus this way if Dice and Wake are off you risk starting out 0-2 ... I don't like that idea personally though I wouldn't be surprised if some of you do ... I still think the first rotation is better even if you are taking Wake out of the dome ... We'll see how Tito calls it
