DeLaRosa Gone - Ramon Ramirez Acquired
Dayton Moore and the Royals acquired their second relief pitcher in the last five days by trading the legendary ‘Player to be Named Later’ to the Colorado Rockies for twenty-six year old reliever Ramon Ramirez.
To make room for Ramirez on the 40 man roster, Jorge DeLaRosa was designated for assignment. Chances are, that the talented but wild DeLaRosa will be claimed by another team during the 10 day ‘assignment period’. If that happens, the Royals can try to work out a deal to get something (not much under this scenario) in return.
The acquisition of Ramirez along with last weeks pickup (also for a PTBNL) of Brad Salmon clearly means that the Royals are not yet satisified with the depth and performance of their current bullpen roster.
This writer’s guess: there are more moves coming.

Someone (can’t remember who) brought up the proposal of sending German to the Dodgers for two minor league pitchers, one of whom is supposed to be flithy.
Any update on that?

That one came from Bob Dutton at the Star and he’s not one to just toss around idle thoughts. Haven’t heard anything since in that regard and I wonder about that deal at this point given we have acquired two relievers already.

I JUST had a 5-minute conversation with someone about JDLR on my way home from class, then came home and read this. Weird.
Clark, do you have any guesses as to whom either of our PTBNLs are? I imagine they’d be other relievers, right? Especially if the German-to-LA rumor is true…wouldn’t we have to get rid of some relievers to make room for the bunch of them we have brought in/might be bringing in soon?

I don’t believe the German rumor. Hillman is talking about playing German in RF if Guillen’s suspension is not lifted, so how can they be contemplating trading him for a reliever? Also, now that they went out and traded for a different reliever, the German rumor makes less sense than ever to me.

Oh I love personnel moves so this should be a fun week.
DLR - With his potential, I hate to see him go, but it seemed inevitable with his poor ST. Also, his release is an indication of where the team is now — more talent and a stronger need to win now.
Ramirez - His numbers from this ST and in 2006 look pretty darn good. Could he be a closer candidate for next year if we want to move Soria to the rotation?
PTBNL - Is there any way the PTBNL could be DLR? Just curious.
Pen - I know the set up guys have had poor springs, but I thought we had decent bullpen depth, so I am surprised by this move in addition to the Salmon move.
German - Mike, I agree with you. With Hillman’s quotes about playing German in RF, I think that’s a pretty good indication that a trade with him is not imminent. That being said, I would mind dealing him for good value since we have Callapso.
DLR - I know the chances of him clearing waivers is small. Then I realized that with the Nationals in the their current state, there is no chance that he clears waivers.
I’m looking forward to more moves and I’m hopeful that Moore & Co. improve our overall talent as well as our configuration of talent.

What a day. Huber gone. De La Rosa gone. Middle relief getting stronger? With Ramon in, who is the odd man out of the pen? No DLR, Davies sent down…Bale #4, Tomko #5? Will German get traded after his “showcase” in Right? Who are the players to be named? The Royals owe two PTBNL, the Royals are owned a PTBNL. With five days until Opening Day, there are still a lot of questions to be answered…and they don’t seem to be in any hurry.

Ewing, I had the same thought about the Nationals. We should say our formal farewells before he inevitably ships off to DC.
