Johan Package Might Be Centered On Cano

Ken Davidoff of Newsday.com reports that  “a person familiar with Minnesota’s operations” believes that if the Yankees were seriously going to make a run at south-paw Johan Santana, New York second baseman Robinson Cano would have to be the centerpiece of the package.  Makes a lot of sense for Minnesota, as they have a hole at 2B after trading Luis Castillo to the New York Mets on July 31st.

Robinson hit a cool .306 last year, with 19 HR and 97 RBI.  His OBP sat a very good .353, and he only struck-out 85 times in 617 at-bats.  The Yankees are rumored to have offered Melky Cabrera, Phil Hughes, and another prospect for Santana, but the Twins easily turned that down.  If Johan is ever to get traded, the Twins will no doubt get a very young all-star caliber player and a few amazing prospect arms.

hey, josh, you are getting bad info………
the yanks would never offer phil hughes….
what the twins need most is a third baseman
punto is a minor leaguer…he can’t even hit his weight
rodriquiz the utility infielder is a minor leaguer
the rookie that they have at second base needs some more time to see if he can cut it…….but so far he has not been very good at all

Hey John, If the rookie you were referring to was Alexi Casilla, I would bet that he would move to third-base if Cano was to go to Minnesota.
But you are right, as the Twins main weakness for many years now has been third-base.

John, not sure where YOU aren’t getting your info. Many outlets have reported they would move Hughes for Johan.

Also, Cano has been considered by many to eventually move to third, so the Twins would probably do that, because his bat plays better there, and Casilla’s plays better at 2d.
