Royals Pursing Colon/Cantu and Marlins Close

  • According to Impacto Deportivo, the Royals are pursuing free-agent hurler Bartolo Colon. Bartolo had a 4-inning outing for his Dominican League team, allowing 2-runs. His showing across seas will allow him to receive either a 2-year deal or an incentive-laden 1-year deal. Would be a very smart move for the Royals, as they can gamble a bit on a veteran like Colon.
  • According to Jorge Cantu’s agent, his client and the Florida Marlins are “pretty far along” in a contract agreement. Cantu would compete with recently acquired Jose Castillo at third and possibly platoon with Mike Jacobs at first.
  • The Toronto Blue Jays have resigned outfielder Reed Johnson to a 1-year deal. The deal is set to pay the 31-year old $3.275M.
