The Transaction Guy

Reds Close To Signing Piazza?

According to Gotham Baseball, manager Dusty Baker feels “confident” that the Cincinnati Reds will sign 39-year old catcher Mike Piazza. Seems a bit odd, as Piazza will be a defensive liability at the position. Still, i’m sure Piazza can hit 15-20 home-runs in Cincinnati’s launching pad. The Reds were supposed to be looking for a “throw and catch” guy, but if signing Piazza is indeed true, the Reds are going for an all offense no defense guy.

Mike hit .275 in only 83 games last year, as a shoulder injury kept him on the shelf for half the year. He still is a very capable hitter, but going back to catcher shouldn’t spell well for both the Reds’ defense and Piazza’s health.
