Sheets Leaves Game

Not good news at all for Brewer’s fans, with ESPN.com reporting that pitcher Ben Sheets left his start against Cincinnati with tightness in his right triceps. Before he was forced to leave, Sheets had thrown five scoreless innings and looked dominant.

Uh oh, Sheet’s injury woes have apparently started. You all know the story by now. Great pitcher, when he’s actually on the roster. Unfortunutely, he’s been off it way too often, whether it’s his finger, shoulder, or knee.

Hopefully for Milwaukee’s sake, his early departure was just a precautionary move by manager Ned Yost, as he doesn’t want to take any chances. But considering Sheet’s past, this has to be looked at as kind of serious. He could be on the DL shortly, whether it’s because this or something building on this in his next start.

As the season goes on, the Brewers need Sheets. It’s pretty simple. When he’s in the rotation and pitching like an ace, they have a decent chance in the Central. However, when he’s on the DL, Milwaukee’s chances of winning anything decrease dramatically.

That’s because Sheets is the foundation of the rotation. Unless some one else steps up when he’s gone(if he ever is this year), the rotation struggles mightily. Luckily for them, Yovani Gallardo is making his first start on Sunday, and has ace potential even now. They’ll certainly need him if Sheets is unable to stay on the roster, as even with their solid depth, they already have a shaky rotation now. Imagine it minus Ben Sheets. Boy, the North Side of Chicago might be partying all night.
