Igawa Staying In Rotation
Kei Igawa was called up by the Yankees last week to fill a spot in their rotation, having a good season in AAA so far. However, things quickly changed on Wednesday when he gave up six runs to the Tigers in just three innings.
Even so, the New York Daily News reports that the Yankees plan to stick with Igawa for at least one more start, possibly more.
This isn’t very surprising. They actually are paying this guy a lot of money, and he’s done enough in the minors and probably should be in the big leagues. However, with his control problems, how much longer can they continue to run him out there?
I would say give him two more starts. If he does decent, than keep him in there. If he doesn’t, than call someone else up. The article lists AA pitchers Chase Wright and Dan McCutchen as possibilities if Igawa is demoted. Also, Ian Kennedy could still make his way back up to the MLB.
Right now, Igawa may be fighting for his chance to stay a Yankee. With Jeff Karstens pitching well, the Yankees may run out of patience with Igawa, and look to trade him.
