Padres Acquire Corey

Earlier today, we knew that the Padres would likely be acquiring a reliever today. We now know who that is, according to Padres.com. Bryan Corey is the man, traded from the Red Sox to San Diego for a PTBN or money.

The thirty-four year old right-hander Corey cleared waivers in April after being designated for assignment and has been pitching in AAA since.

While I would have liked the Padres to get a left-hander, this is a pretty nice move. Corey is a guy with a good amount of experience, and should be able to help their struggling bullpen. He won’t make that big of an impact, but he should be able to provide an upgrade over Joe Thatcher.
