Rockies interested in Tavarez

Boston.com has a source telling them that the Red Sox are still talking to the Rockies about a possible Julian Tavarez trade. The Denver Post reported last week that Colorado was interested, and that appears to still be the case.

The veteran Tavarez has struggled this year coming out of the bullpen with a 7.15 ERA, but the Red Sox have not been able to get him many opportunities, putting him on the block. With Bartolo Colon looking ready in AAA, Boston wants to clear up space for him by getting rid of a starter or long reliever.

For the Rockies, Tavarez would be in the same role as a long reliever and possible fifth starter. He wouldn’t exactly be the best option, but they could get him fairly cheap, maybe for just a prospect or two.

Look for a deal to go down soon, as there is mutual interest to get this one done.
