Red Sox DFA Tavarez
The Boston Herald reports that the Red Sox have designated reliever Julian Tavarez for assignment, making room for Sean Casey who is coming off the DL.
This isn’t very surprising, as Tavarez is getting very old, with his performance this season reflecting that. Boston has more than enough bullpen and rotation depth to make this happen with Bartolo Colon appearing to be ready.
The Rockies are still in trade talks with the Red Sox about Tavarez, so I’d expect a trade to be completed this week.
