Orioles win behind Markakis, Jones
The Orioles ended up taking their series in Minnesota against the Twins by winning today’s game 3-2.
The highlight of the game was the return of Scott Baker from the DL. He was pretty good, just giving up two runs in five innings. Those two runs were a result of Nick Markakis’s two-run homer, his tenth.
Baker should help Minnesota’s rotation a lot. Right now, they’re hanging on to second place in the Central and need their pitching to remain strong. It doesn’t have to be dominate, but it can’t fall apart.
Garrett Olson got his fifth win of the year by going 6.1 innings and giving up two runs. He’s been a pleasant surprise for the Orioles so far; hopefully he can hold up.
Adam Jones’s homer in the seventh inning won the game for the Orioles who remain in last place in the AL East because of the Yankees win. Still, with a few games going their way, they could easily move up to third place. Who would of thought that would be possible at this point in the season?
George Sherrill shut Minnesota down in the ninth to pick up his twentieth save. It’s just amazing how good he has been in his first season as closer and how great a pick-up he has been for the Orioles. I’m sure the Mariners wish they still have him. Even so, Baltimore may look to trade him, as he is already thirty-one.
