SFG Designates Chulk
The San Francisco Giants have designated 29-year old reliever Vinnie Chulk for assignment, and will replace him with Double-A reliever Sergio Romo.
Chulk seems to still have some time to improve, as he’s got above-average control and is still only 29. He posted a 3.56 ERA last year for the Giants, so there should be some interest in the right-hander. Vinnie has made it clear that if he’s not traded in the 72-hour window, he will decline the assignment to Triple-A and become a free-agent.
As for Romo, the 25 year old posted a 4.00 ERA and 14 saves for the Giants’ Double-A affiliate, and was named the Class A Relief Pitcher of the Year last year. He seems to have quite the stuff, but still seems very raw.
