Floyd ends Twins’ winning streak
The only good thing about last night for the Twins is that they were not a victim of a no-hitter by White Sox starter Gavin Floyd, who lost the no-hit bid in the ninth inning when Joe Mauer hit a one-out double.
Other than that, it was a rough night for the Twins as their winning streak was over at 5 games.
The Twins lost, 7-1, to the struggling White Sox, who snapped a six-game losing streak.
It was simply Floyd’s night. He just got it done by throwing strikes, working fast, and getting ground outs. He mixed his pitches well, which confused Twins hitters at the plate. He retired 16 in a row at one point in this game.
The only hiccup he had was against Mauer. Besides the ninth-inning double, he walked the Twins catcher twice. Mauer scored the Twins’ lone run of the night.
Floyd pitched 8 1/3 innings, and then Bobby Jenks relieved him after Mauer’s hit as the White Sox closer got the final two outs.
Nick Blackburn could not match up to what Floyd did as he simply didn’t have it. He gave up 4 runs on six hits in 6 innings. He also walked three. He gave up hits that was He threw pitches which were easy for the White Sox to hit. Most of his pitches was were up a lot, and the White Sox took advantage of it.
He simply put the Twins in a hole that they could not recover, and Floyd cruised from there.
The Twins just have to tip their hat to Floyd, and find a way to beat Mark Buehrle tonight at U.S. Cellular Field.
