Latest Twins’ win should be expected
The Twins did it again!
They came from behind to beat the Cleveland Indians, 9-6, Saturday night at the Metrodome. This win extends the Twins’ winning streak to 4 games.
Was there any doubt the Twins were going to lose this one? Their offense is too good right now. They can beat anyone. With the Twins doing well offensively in the last few weeks, the Indians’ 5-2 lead in the third inning was not intimidating.
The Twins methodically found a way to win by scoring a run in the fourth and in the fifth to cut the deficit to 5-4, and then score five runs in the sixth to take the lead and not look back.
With everyone producing these days, this team is not out of this game. No opposing pitcher can rest because there is no easy out in that Twins’ lineup.
Carlos Gomez and Alexi Casilla are on base often with Joe Mauer driving them home. Justin Morneau is a threat when he is at the plate. Jason Kubel, Michael Cuddyer, Brian Buscher, and Delmon Young are hitting well. Nick Punto, Denard Span, and Brendan Harris have gotten into the act also.
The Twins’ starters have to feel good about that. They don’t have to feel guilty about losing the game because the hitters will pick them up as they did with Kevin Slowey on Saturday night.
Slowey gave up a three-run home run to Grady Sizemore, which gave the Indians a 5-2 lead. After that, Slowey just stepped it up and retired 14 out of 15 batters. He did what he had to do, which is to keep it close for the hitters to step up.
The hitters did their job from there.
Another reason why the Twins are playing well is that they know they are going to win when they are out on the field. This is a different team than they were in the first two months of the season. In the first two months of the season, they were just trying to get in the flow of things such as getting at-bats. Now, it’s a different attitude. When a team wins games like this most of the time, it’s because they know they are going to get it done.
With wins like Saturday night, this is becoming ho-hum yet enjoyable.

When was the last time Minnesota was racking up runs like this? This is crazy.
I also like Mauer’s three walks. He is a stud.

In 2006, Andrew. The Twins were going on that type of run offensively in June and July. Of course, they fell apart in September, and they survived by making the playoffs. It’s just fun to watch. I expected a win tonight. I knew the Twins were coming back. Nothing can stop them right now. The Twins are playing with supreme confidence. I expect this team to actually to go to Boston and win at Fenway. The players expect it themselves. The killer instinct is there.

Let’s hope they don’t fall apart again. It’s the pessimist in me that has a bad feeling, though.

I am pessimistic myself, but right now, everything is working. Everyone is doing their job. When you see that, good things happen. This team is playing like a championship team.

…and being overlooked by major market media, as usual. Not that I care.

Is it me or am I getting tired of the love that the Rays are getting? They are a great story, but enough already. The Twins and A’s are as impressive as the Rays. I know the Twins and A’s have had their moment of the sun over the years, but it does not make it any less appealing.

Man I am tired of writing.
I meant to say maybe it’s me, but I am tired of the love that the Rays are getting on ESPN.

They are a great story, but I doubt it will last. They have an extremely young rotation, almost none of whom have pitched over 200 innings in a season. (I think Garza has the least in his career)
I am extremely sick of the biased networks, the largest of whom is ESPN. But what else, huh?

I could see the Rays being a wild-card. We will see. I would love to see the Red Sox go away, but that team is too good and too experienced. The Red Sox will win the division and go all the way again this season. They are the best team in baseball IMO. As for ESPN, I haven’t watched it in years.

I don’t get cable, so I can say the same thing. All the more reason I should get MLB.tv, right?

What are you waiting for, Andrew? Get MLB.TV today. It’s a must. ESPN rarely shows the Twins or even mentions them on Baseball Tonight. You really need the service to get your Twins fix if you are not from Minnesota.

ESPN radio is giving the Twins some love, but not too much. We’re (as always) the sideshow for the Red Sox / Yankees obsession that ESPN has…
