Twins Killings

Teagarden and Padilla spoil Twins’ day

Scott Baker had a perfect game going in this contest.

Unfortunately for him, that ended when Taylor Teagarden hit a two-out solo home run in the sixth inning.

Not only did Baker not get the perfect game, but he could not get the win because Vincente Padilla, Eddie Guardado and C.J. Wilson combined to pitch a 1-0 shutout against the Twins on Sunday afternoon at the Metrodome.

Besides Baker’s performance, the best thing that came out of this loss was the White Sox losing the rubber game of a three-game set to the Royals Sunday afternoon at Chicago.

It was just one of those days, and it will happen during a course of a 162-game season.

It’s rare that the Twins get shutout like this at home. It’s as rare as the Rangers scoring three runs overall in this series.

The Twins are a good bet to get bloop hits during the course of the game at the Metrodome. It’s just that it never happened in this contest.

Rangers’ infielders knew how to get the ball and make plays. The Twins hit many balls to Padilla. What can the Twins do?

It’s just unfortunate that it happened because the Twins wasted a good performance by Baker.

Baker struck out eight, and gave up two hits and a walk in eight inning.

The Twins can live with that type of performance from Baker.

They can live with this type of loss. It’s not like this was 2005 when the starters would pitch well yet they would lose because the offense was horrible that season. This is a good hitting team at home. Plus, it’s not like the Twins lost to a scrub like they did often in recent years. They lost to a pitcher who has had a good season.

Plus, it’s hard to sweep any team especially a team like Texas, who has overachieved this season.

It wasn’t meant to be on this day.

I agree. Padilla has had our number, and today was just an off-day for the Twins.

Padilla was good today. No question about it. I thought he should have been in the ASG. He has been Texas’ best starter all season. This guy has good stuff. He can throw strikes, and he pitches inside. Imagine if Rick Anderson was coaching him. You are talking 20-game winner with this guy. I think Rangers pitching coach Mark Connors has done a fine job with Padilla too.

Padilla worked fast. He threw inside. He threw strikes. He got his groundouts. What was scary was how the Twins were hitting at him as he caught the ball. The Twins normally get these bloop hits and they never lose 1-0 at home.

I am not upset about this loss today. First of all, it’s hard to sweep. Second, with a good performance like that from a good starter, I can’t get crazy. The big picture is the Twins won the series and the White Sox lost.

The fact Chicago loss made it a great day all around which is why I am okay with this loss.

Twins head to the Bronx Monday night. Should be interesting. Here’s hoping Texas wins at Chicago too.
