Johnny Damon Is Fine
After about a week, baseball pundits were ready to shovel dirt on the grave of Johnny Damon’s career. His bat looked slow and tentative, and he seemed to have lost his ability to work the count and make pitchers work. Suddenly it seems that Damon has quietly resurrected himself. People are still referring to him as useless (see Bob Klapisch), yet his numbers have steadily increased since his early season slump. He is hitting .243/.357/.471, with those last two numbers being in line with his first season in New York. His OPS+ of 123 would be a career high. He is on pace for about 40 doubles, 24 homers, 80 RBI’s, and 24 stolen bases, obviously providing that he stays healthy. Those totals would represent a great bounce back season for Damon. I would expect the power numbers to finish at a lower level, with the batting average coming up near .280. This is the reason I think the Yankees have to be patient with Jason Giambi. If he is still not hitting by the end of May, they should end that experiment and go with Ensberg or Duncan. Until then, I would continue to give him the opportunity to bounce back. A player with his ability to reach base and hit for power is a major asset, and it would be silly to toss him aside after a few rough weeks.

Trip Aces? That’s a laugh. Call me when Hughes gets his major league ERA under 5 and Kennedy gets his major league WHIP under 1.50.

I actually do think it’s time to end the Kennedy experiment. Hoopla aside, Kennedy’s a rookie with a career 5.18 ERA and 1.64 WHIP who’s yet to spend 150 innings in the minors. Cashman needs to stop rushing all our prospects, not only is he going to get poor major league production out of them, but he could be ruining their careers as well.

THE DEMON ROCKS ! HE WAS AWESOME IN THAT 5 GAME SWEEP BACK IN 2006, WHICH CHANGED EVERYTHING BECAUSE IN THE OFFSEASON, BOSTON SPENT AN UNPRECEDENTED $51.1 MILLION JUST TO SPEAK WITH DICE-K TO BOLSTER THEIR PITCHING STAFF. OUTSPENT EVERYBODY, JUST KEPT SPENDING AND SPENDING AND FINALLY BOUGHT THEIR 2ND WORLD SERIES CHAMPIONSHIP. I WONDER HOW MUCH BOSTON SPENT IN 86 YRS ON PLAYERS TO REALIZE JUST 1 CHAMPIONSHIP OVER THAT SPAN OF TIME?

Bill you can make your point without the caps.
April 23rd, 2008 at 2:21 pm
Manny, what does that have to do with the post? If you are just here to bait others, go elsewhere.
April 23rd, 2008 at 3:47 pm
He is annoying isn’t he.
April 23rd, 2008 at 4:55 pm
Moshe, why do you post under your name AND Pete C? You\’re a writer here, you should be able to make your point with one name rather than posting under multiple names to gang up on people who don\’t agree with you.

Pretty soon we’ll be hearing from Gicas and Edelman.
April 23rd, 2008 at 5:37 pm
You think so Moshe, I mean… Pete. Sorry about that.
April 23rd, 2008 at 5:42 pm
Moshe, what’s up! I agree with you on Damon, but only because he’s the best left fielder the Yankees have right now. Cannot say the same for Giambi. Right now, he’s the worst 1B in mlb. His defense in general stinks and he’s not hitting. I would not give him until May because he’s killing the Yankees both in the field and in the lineup. If he doesn’t start hitting by the first week in May, it’s time for him and the Yankees to part their merry ways.

Ok, Dubois. Pete is an entirely different person, but believe what you want. Silly.
April 23rd, 2008 at 6:29 pm
Oh, and Pete, we hear from Edelman all the time. In fact, he’s in this comments section. See if you can find him!
April 23rd, 2008 at 7:16 pm
Don’t worry about it Moshie, I guess you’ve gotta get comments somehow…
April 23rd, 2008 at 7:48 pm
Manny, I actually have no idea what you are referring to.
April 23rd, 2008 at 8:04 pm
Manny, do you forget that we have access to the IPs? Moshe doesn’t post under any other name.
You, on the other hand are Full Manny, Syracuse Dave, Michael Edelman, Olde Town Glory, Casey Jones, WAC, Windigo, etc.
April 23rd, 2008 at 8:24 pm
Thanks Eric. I was waiting for one of the other writers to verify that.

Does that mean he is Dubois also? What a weirdo…and a jerk, Some people just need to grow up.
Maybe you can post his list of names every time he makes a comment.

This is the shit that I don’t like about the rivalry. Perhaps I’m not a normal Sox fan, but I like to read about the Yankees and see what people think about the team.
It is one thing to start a debate in the comments if it relates to the post, but just putting antagonistic crap just derails everything and is annoying. I abandoned the comments and came very close to stop reading both Firebrand and Bronx Block all together during the Endelman/Gicas heyday. Seriously, what is the point?

Guy’s like Shane for the most part are welcome imo. Even Sybil I meanEdelman and all his other personalities have something to offer at times. It’s just when you stir things up, and then act like the innocent, that puts everyone out.

Fred, personal attacks aren’t cool. Neither is calling someone’s sexual preference an insult. Act like an adult or go back to your own blog.
