Even on a beautiful and comfortable night, the Yankees' offense couldn't rise to the occasion. -- (Brent Nycz)

Preview:
The resurrected Cliff Lee will have his first real test of the season after facing offenses like the Kansas City Royals, Seattle Mariners, the Oakland Athletics (twice) and the Minnesota Twins, all ranked 23rd and below in offense. Even without Alex Rodriguez and Jorge Posada, the Yankees are ranked 11th in offense and still have one of the more potent offenses around.
He will face Chien-Ming Wang, who will be going for his 7th win of the season. Aside from the hiccup against the Red Sox, Wang has been simply dominant.
The Yankees are looking to rebound quickly after the heart-breaking loss against the Indians last night, when Joba Chamberlain gave up a 3-run HR to pinch-hitter David Dellucci.
On a side note, once again, I’ll be at the game tonight, so if the Yankees lose, you can blame it on me. My personal record: 3-3.

Recap:
Coming back from tonight’s game, the first words that left my mouth after I got out of the Stadium were: “That sucked.”
Cliff Lee continued his strong start by going 7 innings, 6 hits and 7 strikeouts. Wang wasn’t great, but he wasn’t terrible either, throwing 99 pitches in 7 innings, but giving up 5 hits, 3 earned runs, and 3 walks.
I don’t have a lot of analysis to say why the Yankees were rocked to sleep by Lee’s pitching performance. What I can say is detail how the team looked out on the field. In this actual game thread before the game, commenter Pete c. wrote:
Last night was a drag. The worst part was you almost saw the air go out of them. Almost a state of shock. Or was that only me?
I can say, the air was out of them by the end of the first inning. Maybe this is completely subjective, but after Derek Jeter’s 4-pitch strikeout and Bobby Abreu’s 3-pitch strikeout back-to-back, I just felt the team deflate in front of my eyes. The rest of the game, balls were hit either weakly or right at the infielders. Just a depressing game to be at.
Let’s hope the Yankees can relay behind Mike Mussina tomorrow for the 1:05 pm start.

Damn walks. Last night Joba’s walks killed us (not to mention the HR), but it would have been a different situation if they were tied instead of down by two. Now Wang walks the lead off batter who ends up scoring. 2nd inning he walks a .191 hitter. Come on and throw strikes Yankee pitchers!

Case in point right now is Cliff Lee. This guy is just pouring strikes into the zone.

I got a reminder for this SORRY *** Yankee team, inconsistency won’t get you far, and specially not in the East division of an American league. The Yankees are a very streaky team so far, and seems more a team that finds ways to lose but not win. It seems like they either sweep a series or get swept by the opposing team, and I just had enough already.

Ahhh, fuck me sideways….

This ”offense” is hard to watch. The Yanks could have been swinging a Bass Fiddle tonight and they couldn’t have made solid contact against Lee or Perez.

The Yankees better thank there lucky stars that Boston lost the game tonight to a struggling Detroit tiger team, because they would have fallen further from contention with a Boston win.

khafiz, it could be the fact that I wrote the Wang post before he pitched or that I was at the game. Then again, I am somewhat superstitious myself.

Wang did’nt pitch a bad game last night. It was obvious he didn’t have his best last night, but he did a good job with what he did have. The line-up should be ashamed of themselves.

Brent you obviously sit out in right field, what section are you taking that picture from there, 39 or 41? I’m back in 41 myself, its a nice seat huh, lol

Joe G:
That game, I was in Section 41, row KK, closer to Section 39. Today’s game, I was in Section 39, row E, closer to Section 41. Go figure.
