Preview:
Mike Mussina takes the hill trying to prevent a three game sweep at the hands of the Indians. Mussina has been strong in his last three starts, and the Yankees could use a good performance from him following two tough losses with Andy Pettitte and CM Wang on the hill. Opposing the Moose will be Paul Byrd, who started the clincher against the Yankees in last season’s ALDS and pitched very well. The Yankees will try to solve Cleveland’s pitching after having been held scoreless for the last 14 innings.

Jamie’s Recap:
Well, that 14 inning scoreless streak ended with a Yankees home run derby. Propelled by 4 home runs, the Yankees avoided a sweep by beating the Indians 6-3.
Mike Mussina came in and pitched another brilliant game. With the win today, he moves into sole possession of 39th place on the all-time wins list. Paul “Where’s my HGH” Byrd allowed 5 runs before getting yanked after 6 1/3 innings. The Yankees bats were something they weren’t yesterday: Alive. Johnny Damon, Jason Giambi, Robinson Cano and Wilson Betemit all belted home runs, and only three Yankees went hitless. With the hits, Robinson Cano and Jason Giambi helped their averages to a blistering .172 and .186, respectively. On the other hand, Hideki Matsui is batting .345, leading the American League.
Moose only got the ball for 5 innings, allowing Ross Ohlendorf to take the mound. He pitched two shutout innings. Joba Chamberlain shook off Tuesday’s loss, by pitching a scoreless inning, and striking out none other than David Dellucci. Of course, Mo was lights out for the save, even if he did allow one hit.
The Cleveland Indians played in their final game at Yankee Stadium today. Their record was 262-456. They leave Yankee Stadium one last time with a loss under their belts.
The Yankees are once again a .500 team.

So much for that 3-0 lead. Doh!

And I’m still lost on why they keep running Wilson Betemit out there. Sure, he’s a switch hitter, but all that means is he can’t hit from either side of the plate. I like Ensberg in there until A-Rod returns. At least somehow I think he’s capable of something every now and then.

Nice 2 out knock Damon. Need more of those. I’m enjoying having this conversation with myself. Where is everybody?

Nice job from Cano. And I agree about Ensberg and Betemit.

And as I say that, Betemit goes deep.

Betemit will probably play against all/most of the rights with Ensberg against the lefties… He’s better from the left side of the plate and Ensberg is better against lefties

Clevelands last game at the stadium. Something’s wrong with that sentance.
