Preview:
The Rays are hot as of late, currently on a four-game win streak, winning nine of their last home games, and 13 of their last 18. They are five games over .500 for the first time in franchise history. They’ve got great production at the plate, and at the mound. I’d never thought I’d say this, but Tampa Bay is a good team.
They are only 2-4 against the Yankees this year, and have generally struggled with them. Andy Pettitte takes the mound tonight, hoping to turn himself around. He is 0-2 in his last three starts with a 5.71 ERA. His lifetime record against the Rays is an astounding 14-3.
Garza doesn’t have great numbers against the Yankees, but the bats will still need to be effective. The Rays have a lot of young talent, and the Yankees offense isn’t always productive. At least tonight’s game won’t get rained out.

Recap:
So much for Andy Pettitte being dominant against the Rays. So much for Garza having troubles with the Yankees. So much for hot bats. In all fairness, I’d rather have had a rainout.
The Yankees were embarrassed by the Rays tonight. Andy Pettitte continues to struggle, lasting only 4 innings and giving up 5 runs. He falls to 3-4 on the year. The bullpen pitched relatively well, considering that they are down at the bottom of the barrel. The Rays pounded out 13 hits, and only one of them went hitless for the game. They are continuing their hot streak, winning 14 of their last 19, and 10 straight at home. When Alberto Gonzalez has the best offensive game, you know you are in trouble. With all the uncertainty in the rotation now, the Yankees don’t need to worry about Andy Pettitte being troublesome.
In other news, the Yankees will still be without A-Rod, at least for another week.

While not exactly in those words, I agree with the sentiment.
