Hank Is Delusional
After Hank Steinbrenner’s little rant yesterday, I opined that,
Does he really think the players are going to read the quotes and say, “You know what, I really have not been trying. Hank has motivated me to improve.” If so , then he is quite delusional.
Well, I guess Hank is in fact that misguided and conceited. Last night, he told Bill Madden,
I know we’re gonna come on at some point in this season, but right now, other than (Chien-Ming) Wang, (Mariano) Rivera, (Derek) Jeter, (Hideki) Matsui, (Johnny) Damon and (Mike) Mussina, after I got on him a little, we’re not doing jack (bleep).
That has to be a slap in the face to the Moose, an implicit suggestion that he was unable to motivate himself until the new Boss spoke up with his sage advice that Mussina be more like Jamie Moyer. Mooose is reportedly a sensitive guy, and I am sure that quote will rub him the wrong way. I can only imagine what is going through Hank’s mind. He probably sees Moose sitting in the clubhouse, reading his original quotes about Moyer, and saying, “Eureka!!! Jamie Moyer!!! That’s what I should be doing. Hank, you are a baseball genius.” I find that to be pretty unlikely. As I said yesterday, I like Hank, but I think it is unfair for him to take credit for the guys who are succeeding while laying the blame for the guys who are failing at the feet of his underlings. i really hope that the team gets on a roll, if only to avoid hearing from the Steinbrothers for a while.

“Hank Speaks: What Else Is New”
Per your own headline yesterday. Do you have to write an analytical post every time Hank Steinbrenner says something? It’s not exactly newsworthy. ESPN covers that plenty already.

Maybe we’ll get lucky and Hank will get caught giving illegal contributions to some politician. MLB banishes him from baseball for a couple of years, giving Cash and Co. the time to build and run the team…and hopefully, do as good a job as the Stick and his folks did in the 90s.
Well, a guy can dream…

I’ve followed this team since ‘62,and if this guy doesn’t sound pitch perfect like his dad it’s some reporter ghosting for him. Man that DNA is some scary shit. Here we go “prod of the Yankees”, the sequel, and we all know how those turn out.

Well put, Mike. I only posted it because I think Moose may take offense, and then we will hear about it regardless.

I hope he doesn’t abandon the plan of stocking the organization with good young arms. I don’t think he will. He even acknowledged how important that was in the offseason, saying he felt they could have the best rotation in baseball for the new stadium for many years. The good young talent in the AL east, especially on the Rays, is staring him right in his face in his own backyard.

This is going to sound a liitle off, but I like that Hank is … well … like George. Sure he is being an ass. However, his comments underscore that he is all about winning. Whatever stupidity that we endured out of George over the years — and there was lots — we also had an owner who was dedicated to putting a winner on the field every year. Look around, lots of owners just mail it in. I would rather have a big mouth with the passion to crush Boston like a bug, than an eloquent, gentleman owner that doesn’t thirst for victory.

The worst thing for this team would be firing Cashman!!!! Could you imagine where they’d be without him?

Tommy boy doesnt realize that nobody cares about him, nobody cares what he has to say. But we shouldnt worry b/c he said…
I’m a horse trader, I’m a horse bettor, I’m a horse breeder. You learn a little something when you’re in that business. If you can do horseracing, you can do baseball.
I feel better.
