Igawa wanted out?
Ted Striker: Surely you can’t be serious.
Rumack: I am serious… and don’t call me Shirley.
All Airplane! quotes aside, in ESPN’s Rumblings and Grumblings, Jayson Stark reports that Kei Igawa wanted to get the hell out of Dodge.
Via ESPN.com:
Kei Igawa isn’t quite as buried on that Yankees’ depth chart as Carl Pavano, but it’s close. And he’s already homesick. We’ve heard from two different baseball men recently that Igawa asked the Yankees over the winter if there was any way he could return to Japan. The Yankees quietly explored their options, got nowhere and gave up. They’re still on the hook for nearly $11 million to Igawa through the 2010 season.
First, rumblings of him being moved to the San Diego Padres, and then Japan over the winter? Igawa has been finding success in the AAA level, as Pending Pinstripes reports once every 5 games, but is there a team in the majors who wishes to acquire a AAAA player? Heck, is there a team in Japan who wishes to acquire Igawa back?
The Igawa saga continues.

All this pain with breaking in new pitchers will hopefully pay off by not having to pay trainloads of cash to someone who can’t pitch in NY.

If there is a way to not pay the full contract, I am for it.

I hate Pavano.
The fact that Doug Davis had surgery for cancer and then came back to pitch in a matter of months is amazing.
Pavano is a scum bag compared to Davis.
