Damon Says He’s Ready to Return

According to the NY Post, Yankee outfielder Johnny Damon says he is ready to return to action and DH at the very least (though the role of injured, unable to throw DH currently belongs to Jorge so they will have to work that one out between them). Joe Girardi was less aggressive, stating that Damon might do a rehab assignment starting Thursday and be ready for the Boston series. Once he can actually play the field, it will be interesting to see whether Gardner sticks or they feel he won’t get enough at bats and they send him down, or they have him split time w/ Damon and Melky.

I would wait until he can field as well.

I sure hope they don’t keep Gardner up to take PAs away from Damon or Melky. Well, maybe from Melky… maybe.

He would be useful, in a small way, as a PR. But that probably screws up his development, so I think they send him back to AAA.

Yes, Christian is more suited to a pinch hitter/ 4th outfielder role. The other option is dealing Melky which is conceivable, though they would be selling low on him.

Him not being able to take the field is probably one of the reasons they may shut down Posada for the year. Any word on the rule change to allow more than one DH in a lineup?
