Roger Huerta is damn good and other UFC news

Roger Huerta scored his fifth victory of the year Saturday night in the Octagon, but it wasn’t easy. Huerta was on his way to a unanimous decision loss to Clay Guida. Guida was on top in all three judges’ scorecards and Huerta knew he had to pull out something big. He did just that by submitting Guida with a rear naked choke at :51 of round three.

Huerta proved he can not only take a beating and bounce back but bounce back in such a convincing fashion that you almost forget that he was ever in trouble in the first place. If Huerta isn’t the number one contender, he’s definitely number two. I think a great next fight would be for him to face former Lightweight Champion, Sean Sherk. Or, he could get the winner of the Penn-Stevenson fight in their first title defense.

Speaking of Sean Sherk, his suspension is up in January but he’ll be returning without his Lightweight Title. He had is year-long suspension reduced to six months and has vowed never to fight in California again.

Forrest Griffin and Rampage Jackson are your newest coaches for the next season of The Ultimate Fighter. Filming starts in January and episodes will start airing in April At the conclusion of the season, Griffin and Jackson will face off for Jackson’s Light-Heavyweight Championship.

I’m curious as to what you all think about the two big upcoming fights on the 29th. Of course I’m talking about Matt Hughes vs. Georges St-Pierre and Chuck Liddell vs. Wanderlei Silva. Let me know who you think will win and why.

Huerta is the man…I met him in Medinah, MN at an ultimate fighting event before he joined the UFC and he’s a real cool guy. I always enjoy seeing him do well.

They haven’t shown the Ultimate Fighter finale in Turkey yet. I’m still waiting for it. Thanks for spoiling it for me, Jesse. I’m kiddin’. Actually, accidently stopped by the UFC website a couple of days ago. So, I screwed up the surprise, lol.

Roger Huerta vs Sean Sherk could happen in March. Then the winner faces the winner of Stevenson vs the Prodigy.

I think Matt Hughes will win via ground and pound. GSP hasn’t really proved anything to me. Yes, he has all of the tools in the world to dominate the division but hasn’t. Why is that? Matt Serra is no Randy Couture yet he knocked out GSP. So what changed? We’ll find out before New Year’s Eve.

Chuck Liddell vs Wanderlei Silva should be a good one. Will Chuck develop a ground game? Has Silva recovered from beating knocked out by Hendo? I think Silva dominates Liddell. Liddell looks gun shy. After Jackson knocked him out, he hasn’t been the same. Liddell has lost confidence in his game and Silva will take advantage of it. Unless Liddell finds his swagger and ground, I don’t see him beating Silva. Silva will probably knock him out in an epic battle.

LOL, much apologies E-ROC. Enjoy every second of the fight. It was simply amazing. I can’t wait to watch the replay over and over again.

Guida needs to chop off some of that hair. It might actually impede his vision.

I think Roger Huerta is the real deal. Clay Guida was beating the crap out of Huerta in the first two rounds, especially in the 2nd round when Guida caught Huerta with a right hand that sent him sprawling like a fish out of water. But in the third, Huerta got really aggressive and eventually choked out Guida. Roger Huerta vs Sean Sherk in 2008???

It was cool to have Kenny Florian commentating during the fight. Florian vs Huerta is probably more of a possibility than Huerta vs Sherk. I don’t know. The lightweight division SO strong right now that anything match is possible.

Mac Danzig could be a real threat in the lightweight division. He looks like the real deal.
