Georges St-Pierre=The Best Fighter in the World

I have a question for my most loyal reader, E-ROC. Did Georges St-Pierre finally prove something to you on Saturday night?

I will answer for you: he absolutely did.

GSP beat Matt Hughes at 4:54 of the second round by verbal submission via an armbar. It wasn’t a surprise that St-Pierre beat Hughes to win the interim Welterweight Championship but the fashion in which he did it. He not only dominated the stand-up fight with Hughes, but one would have thought that St-Pierre was the former All-American wrestler, not Hughes. He took Hughes to the mat several times, each time with ease. Once on the ground, GSP landed a barrage of fists to Hughes’ head and body.

The victory gave St-Pierre not only the edge in their rivalry, 2-1, but also the chance to face Matt Serra for the undisputed crown when Serra heals from his back injury. It also signaled a changing of the guard. Matt Hughes has always said he had only a few more fights left and would love to finish his career in Chicago after the UFC gets sanctioned there, but after the fight he was questioning just what his future holds. GSP on the other hand showed just what a dominant force he can be when he is focused and motivated.

Hughes himself even said there was no excuse for what happened in the fight. GSP was the better man, the better fighter. When GSP can dominate an all-time great like Matt Hughes, he not only shows his greatness in his division but his rise to the top of the UFC as the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world. No fighter possess the all-around game, strength and speed as well as GSP. Look for him to gain redemption against Matt Serra and reign atop the UFC world for the next few years.

Will GSP finally dominate? That is the question that hasn’t been answer. But he did make me a fan of his, somewhat. I guess will we’ll have to wait until he faces Matt Serra.

I guess Matt Hughes passed the torch. He was dominated in that fight and look discourage afterwards. He’ll probably retire.

LOL, I just noticed that you asked me a question in your article. That answer would be: Yes.
