Tito’s Last Stand

One of the biggest names in the UFC is back in the news. Tito Ortiz has been offered a fight against Lyoto Machida. Machida is fresh off his victory over Sokoudjou at UFC 79. Ortiz has not fought in the Octagon since his draw against Rashad Evans at UFC 73 in July. Ortiz hasn’t won a fight since his victory over Ken Shamrock in October 2006.
Ortiz can currently be seen on “The Celebrity Apprentice” alongside Donald Trump. Ortiz is also the long-time boyfriend of former porn star, Jenna Jameson. Apparently fighting is now secondary to Ortiz even though it was what provided him with a comfortable living.
Ortiz currently has one fight left on his current contract with the UFC. He was set for a re-match against Evans at the November UFC, but that fell through due to his participation on the reality show. Ortiz will definitely be looking for a big pay day for his last fight under this deal.
Machida improved to 12-0 with his win over Sokoudjou and a win over a big name like Tito Ortiz would vault him up the light-heavyweight rankings. He’s still a relative newcomer to the UFC having had only 4 fights in the Octagon thus far.
I think if Machida and Ortiz fought that Machida would come out on top and I don’t think it would be much of a fight. Ortiz always has great camps for his fights, but he seems to have lost interest in fighting and cares more about his status as a celebrity. Machida is on his way up the ladder and with a few more fights could be a serious contender to Rampage Jackson.
I need to get one last dig in on Tito. He can get his last fight in and just go away for all I care. He’s over-hyped and is a complete waste of a fighter. Whew, that felt good.

Hate Tito much?? Me too. I don’t like him either and quite frankly, he should not be facing Machida. He should be fight Houston Alexander. I want to see Ortiz get a brutal beatdown, even though I think he would be Houston. What about Keith Jardine? Machida shouldn’t be facing a guy who hasn’t won in over a year and risk losing his contendership.
