My thoughts on what Robby Gordon did.
Lets recap the mayhem first:
Robby Gordon made the pass of Marcos Ambrose for the lead with four laps to go just as a massive pile up of cars occurred on turn two of the race track that brought out the caution flag. Marcos spins him out. Robby still thinking he was the leader of the race got right behind Marcos bumping him in the rear. NASCAR tells Robby to get behind Ron Fellows or get black-flagged. He does not follow NASCAR. The green/white checker finish comes out and Robby spins out Marcos. Kevin Harvick is the legit leader at this time, Robby Gordon though finishes all rest the laps ahead of Kevin Harvick who wins the race.
After the race Robby says he is going to appeal this victory. I say let him appeal, but he is not going to win this appeal imo. I do think he does have a legit gripe over his position on the racetrack though, but the rules are not in his favor.
NASCAR rules state that even during a caution flag a car has to maintain a certain speed on the racetrack which he did not do and is why he had to be behind Ron Fellows. I agree with that NASCAR rule. He disrespected those rules and that is a complete no-no.
Robby did a stupid thing and it cost Marcos Ambrose a shot for the win of the race. He needs to apologize to him for his actions. Robby also needs to get some severe penalties as well.
I think he is going to lose at least 50 championship points, get on probation for the rest of the year, and get a 50 grand fine for his stupid actions out on the racetrack. They already parked him for at least the Pennsylvania 500 race today and that is a good think. Not surprised by the move at all. I would not be surprised if he got suspended for more races this year.
If I had my way Robby Gordon would have had second place even though it is against NASCAR rules, if he bumped Marcos like he did after the drop of the green flag he would have been parked for the rest of the race. No way will I accept filthy driving like that.
I want to know from the readers here what would have done in the wacky circumstance? Where would you have placed Robby Gordon? What would you have done with him if he had bumped Marcos like he did? What penalties would you throw out at him?

I’ve seen several replays and the caution flag is waving in front of the leaders at the time of the caution so I’m guessing NASCAR threw a full course caution for the pileup Kevin Harvick started by spinning Scott Pruett. Gordon’s spotter probably got on his radio and told him to start lifting for the caution, which he clearly did judging by his telemetry and he gets punted by Ambrose.
Gordon should have been the leader coming back to the green flag. What he did wasn’t smart and he’ll face the jury because of it but Robby Gordon will be Robby Gordon.
One thing is for sure, though: I can honestly say that is the first time I’ve seen three drivers doing burnouts at the end of a race.

Alex, I think the full course caution came out before Robby had the lead of the race. That is why I would put him in second place even though that goes against the NASCAR rules he violated.
I am not so sure Robby was slowing up for leader Marcos.
I do not think Robby Gordon is going to change on the road courses.

When you’ve waited so long to win one of these races, you’ll get desperate. This was his race to lose. He had one of the fastest cars all race long, just like he does at almost every road course race.
I’m not justifying what he did but when you’ve waited so long and it’s in your grasp then it slips away because of a sketchy technicality, that’s rough.

I do not think he was desperate to win a race. He does not even run a full Busch Series season.
I will agree he had one of the fastest cars out on the racetrack.
I think the rule book is 100% clear on this matter that Robby did not follow.

Hey Richard, first time reading your NASCAR section. I noticed that you said that Robby should be docked 50 pts. I hope you dont mean cup pts. He already lost up to 180 by having to sit out todays race. You cant take someones cup points away for a Busch race. You can however suspend them because it was a nascar santctioned event. Also. Marcos Ambrose should have been black flagged for spinning someone under the yellow flag. He should have started 13th or 14th. He didn’t slow down when the yellow flag was presented. Nascar said Robby didn’t pace correctly, well Robby did, he slowed down. Marcos plowed him.

Not cup points Garrett, but Busch Series points since that was the race he was in where he caused all the controversy.
Marcos did not mess up any NASCAR rule so he did not deserve the black flag and deserved his first place spot.
Robby did not pace right at all after HE spun out. When NASCAR finally gave him his proper spot he did not go in that right spot. For that, he got the black flag and then he illegally bumped Marcos out of the way.

Busch points? That would have no affect on someone like Robby who runs 5 Busch Races a year. Marcos did break a rule, he spun someone under yellow blatantly. You can see the yellow flag is clearly out as he spins Robby. The replay has been on about 100 times, maybe it wouldn’t hurt you to watch it and see Marcos spinning Robby under yellow. I don’t think thats allowed. Regardless of if Robby passed him cleanly or not.

Even if you run five races a year in the Busch series we have to be fair with the penalties.
Marcos did not spin him out blatantly.
