Iverson has the last laugh
Dear Mr. Answer,
Kudos to you on a sterling performance on Sunday versus our beloved Sixers. You always exclaimed your love for the city and the fans, making yourself a “Sixer for life.” It’s too bad that things didn’t end better for you in Philly, but sometimes all’s well that ends well doesn’t apply. However, you still hold a place in a lot of hearts here. This video comes courtesy of Matteo via Sixers4Guidos:
It’s nice to see some footage of you practicing here. You’ve made many people proud, not the least being your mom and your son. We love you Allen and wish you the best. You are in a better place now and the Sixers are too without Billy King. You had the upper hand on this day. You win some and you lose some, but there is no better player to have in the trenches with you than Allen Iverson. He’s a true warrior and somebody who defied all the odds to make it. Allen is an inspiration to us all.
BONUS: Iverson’s 38 points and 8 assists led the way in the Nuggets 109-96 victory. Andre Miller led the Sixers with 22 points. You can view the statistics and recaps here. Better yet, Sixers4Guidos strikes again with some brilliant observations. I’m putting the statistics aside (which Brian from DepressedFan does a good job of examining) and looking at the obvious - we miss Iverson. I’m not afraid to admit it. Can you imagine a Lou Williams - Allen Iverson backcourt with Iguodala at small forward? We’d be talkin’ playoffs!

Last laugh? AI has another superstar with him, and still no shot at a ring. Exciting “Hall of Famer”, but he’s all about stats. Denver is happy with him, their making money selling tickets. Check the last few seasons with AI ,and you’ll see sixers were just as bad with him. Sooner or later the AI era was gonna end. I for one, am happy were gone in another direction.. That was a great tribute to AI. But, it made me feel as if I was at his funeral…

After the throw Iverson under the bus from a few weeks ago, this is a nice change of pace.
I always enjoy listening to the “Look who he’s playing with” arguments. Like it’s Iverson’s fault he didn’t draft and sign better players.

Perhaps an explanation of the headline would help -
Last laugh is with regards to the results of yesterday’s game. The game results go towards the win and loss columns and are now set in history. Therefore, for one day, he laughed last.
As far as the Sixers are concerned, Iverson is playing for a playoff team and Billy King got fired this season in the early stages of his rebuilding plan. Iverson definitely earns a last laugh there.
As for whether this team can compete in the playoffs, that remains to be seen. They’ve lacked focus in the past, and while they appear to be a much more focused bunch this year, the West is still pretty good. Camby, Melo and AI could be the Pierce, Garnett, and Allen of the West if only they were as focused.
Thanks for the love, E-ROC…and for Dervin, Iverson’s statements about Iguodala playing point guard seemed hypocritical to me, but maybe he was speaking to a question on whether Iguodala would defer to his scoring talents like the points of his past have. He’s sure made Anthony Carter look good this year, including the 15 dimes to go with Iverson’s 8 that were dropped on us yesterday.

Hey Ricky, no problem. Thanks for your work, well done. I’m going to work on a roundtable discussion for all us Sixers bloggers, so I’ll be in touch!

Steve-
Not a fan of the Iverson-Williams-Iguodala trio? I’m just throwing it out there, knowing full well that it would be a playoff combo, especially in the East.
Sean has taken an unofficial LOA. I guess you like Sean better than me, which is fine, some days I do too. Sean’s a fantastic writer.
Steve, do you like Iverson? Williams? Iguodala? Let me ask you this - in five years, who will be the best of the three? That’s an interesting debate.

an Iverson-Lou Williams back court duo would be excting also for the other team, because they would give up around 50 points per game, LOL
Jon, count me in for the round table discussion, it’s a great display of democracy that you accept also non-americans
“Iverson is playing for a playoff team and Billy King got fired this season in the early stages of his rebuilding plan. Iverson definitely earns a last laugh there”
Definitely. But for the BK firing he will never laugh as much as I did !

50 might be conservative too. It’s no coincidence that the Suns made 20 treys last night on the Nuggets. They fell short of the league record for team treys by one. Low and behold, Iverson was on the court for the record-breaking assault of 21 against the Sixers back in the Jim O’Brien days. It wasn’t his fault though, because that evening, we refused to guard Donyell Marshall on the wing. That’s not Iverson’s responsibility.
