Report: Maurice Cheeks to Receive Contract Extension
A deal is supposed to be finalized Wednesday to extend Mo Cheeks’ contract. The specifics and details of the deal are yet to be resolved. The surprising Sixers are currently tied for the 8th and final playoff spot. This news coming after a 5-game win streak by a team many expected to finish last in the East.
I’m happy for Mo. He isn’t equipped with the most talent but his team plays hard all game, every game. He’s had to deal with the adversity of his superstar demanding a trade and having to buyout a disgruntled PF that believed he was still a superstar. He rallied his remaining troops and finished last season with a 30-29 record after the all-star break.
This year with Larry Brown watching over him from the front-office he has surpassed critics expectations by a very large margin and has his team in the thick of a playoff race. He has been able to win while playing and developing the young players at the same time which is the main priority. He has his players playing up to their ability (hopefully not Rodney Carney) and even playing at a higher level than anticipated (Dalembert, Willie Green). He has made some mistakes this season but he has a young team and has them playing good, team basketball at the right time.
After this offseason he will have more weapons than he’s ever had at his disposal. If he can do this with the group he has, just imagine what he will be able to accomplish. Ed Stefanski said he wanted to evaluate everything from top to bottom including Mo. I guess he was pleased with what he saw so far and he wants Mo to be the coach of the team when the Sixers become Eastern Conference contenders down the road. Congratulations Mo.

This is the headline of Mo’s season, Aarick, well said. And I was never a big fan of him, and never will.
But he has earned my respect.
Also the other options (?) weren’t exactly exciting, so I can live with the decision
