Playoff Time: News & Notes

  • The Sixers lost, in arguably the most meaningless game this team has played in quite some time. They didn’t need a win, although the momentum would have been quite nice. It never looks too great when you go in to the playoffs with a 4-game losing streak.
  • Iggy had a really good shooting night, I know he was 10-21, but a lot of that was simply throwing up prayers late in the 4th quarter. He was very good from long range, as was the rest of the team, shooting 47% from beyond 3pt range.
  • As Jon highlighted early this week, the Sixers are going to need Jason Smith in order to compete with Detroit. Unfortunately, Jason Smith is going to have to play a lot better than he did tonight against Emeka Okafor. Otherwise Rasheed Wallace is going to make him look like the rookie that he is.
  • Willie Green had 13 points in the 1st quarter. Sounds promising right? Well he only had 14 the rest of the way and missed a lot of open shots.
  • Once again, “Sweet” Lou Williams looked like a stud on the court, it seems like he has learned a lot from Andre Miller, and it’ll be interesting to see if he can take what he learned from AI, and what he is learning from AM, and fuse them together.
  • Stephen Colbert promotes the Sixers, and Phillies, Eagles and Flyers, so the”Colbert Bump” should give us some help against Detroit.

WG “only 14″ the rest of the way? you would have wanted him to keep the pace of the first quarter? that would mean he had to score 52 points Justin !!!

agree about all the rest. Jason Smith had a big part in making us lose this game, he had three mistakes in the last minute…anyway, not hating on him, just telling the truth. He will learn, he’s good.

And yes, I also would play him for stretches again the Pistons but I have a feeling Mo will keep him out of the rotation…

Hell yeah I would have liked Willie to keep up that pace lol.

Obviously I knew he wouldn’t but I would have liked to see him at least break 30.

Willie needs to average 52 a night or we should start Thaddeus Young instead (for Green instead of Evans).

I dropped some knowledge here on Ball Don’t Lie (thanks to Skeets, one of the blogosphere’s best).

    Jon,
That was a sweet article and a nice match-up between you and Matt Watson. I got you in 6 games..lol.

Mo was asked by Billy King on the Playoff Preview that NBA TV had what would be the starting lineup since he had so much success against Detroit with Thad. Mo said said he hasn’t decided yet but he think the length really help.

I think when Andre Iguodala guards Rip and Thad guards Tayshaun, it causes some problems, mainly for Rip. Nobody (Maybe besides Louis Williams) is going to keep up with Rip through the screens, so you might as well have a taller defender harass him on the shot once he does get a half-open look. Both Thaddeus and Andre played outstanding defense on those two in the game in Detroit.

There’s also a possibility Reggie doesn’t start and Young plays PF. That is unlikely against Detroit’s size but Reggie Evans could match the Zoo crew’s energy alone, not even mentioning Rodney and Lou. For the record, the only person that scares me on that Detroit bench is Maxiell. The rest are either rookies or journeymen.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see him go with the lineup. If he doesn’t, we’ll be lucky to get a game. If he does this may go 7.
