Dudley starting to get noticed…
Well, at least by ESPN player development expert David Thorpe:
Jared Dudley has quietly fashioned a nice rookie campaign, and his recent success is a big part of Charlotte’s five-game winning streak. He scored 10 or more points in four of those games, and averaged nine boards a game in that span…he’s No. 4 in PER for rookies, and a guy who looks like he’ll be a legit NBA player for years to come. No rookie has a better feel for the game, or is tougher, than this guy.
We here at the Bonfire have previously noted that good things happen when JD is on the court, and the stretch of games without Gerald Wallace gave him a chance to shine a bit. During that span, he had 4 games where he played more than 30 minutes. He averaged 18 points, 9.75 rebounds and 2 steals in those. There is little doubt he can play the game at the NBA level. The question will always be about minutes.

That’s good to hear, he was a solid player for Boston College. I haven’t been able to see him at all this year though.

It is one of the rare good draft choices the Jordan regimes (including back in Washington) have made. Dudley has not been spectacular, but he has been good enough to prove he belongs in the league.

Dudley is one of those glue guys: he isn’t going to be a star, but he is always going to provide hustle and intangibles such as leadership on the floor.
The Bobcats have to find more minutes for this guy.

I’m thinking that Dudley’s ceiling is likely as a Shane Battier type. Similar basketball upbringing and accolades coming into the league, and neither is the most athletic. But they are glue guys who can do a little bit of everything. I could be satisfied with that.
