Where Barging Press Conferences Happens
You’ve probably seen those Coors Light NFL press conference commercials where random drunk party guys with absolutely no press credentials or business being there ask coaches random questions that have nothing to do with football.
They’re probably my favorite series of commercials lately (I can’t wait to see them put some Brian Billick clips on there now that he’s fired, and Coors Light seems to only use retired or fired coaches out of jobs), and the comedy is sometimes just off the charts (”They are who we thought they were!”). But that got me thinking: if you were at a Mike Brown press conference and had a chance to ask any question you wanted to, what would you ask?
One fan got his wish. And the best he could come up with was, “Hey, is LeBron gonna score 50?”
Some random fan wearing a red “Rise Up!” t-shirt just strolled into Brown’s press conference after Game 3 wearing a pass that kind of looked like what media members wear for press access. Media affiliations are in fine print, so the dude just got away with meandering around the team’s locker room and press conferences.
After the Mike Brown press conference, the guy was able to get into the team’s locker room pretending to be a reporter. That’s before somebody finally realized that he wasn’t a real member of the media (gee whiz, you mean media members don’t show up to press conferences wearing red “Rise Up!” t-shirts?) and a band of Cavaliers employees chased him out the restricted areas.
So for all the security and precautions that the Cavs are taking under owner Dan Gilbert, it isn’t enough to screen out a fan in a “Rise Up!” t-shirt pretending to be a sports writer. And the other thing is that he doesn’t even say what media outlet he was representing. There’s “Bob Ryan, Boston Globe,” or “Terry Pluto, Cleveland Plain Dealer,” or “Brian Windhorst, Akron Beacon Journal.” What does this guy say?
“Hey, is LeBron gonna score 50?”
And by the way, if you’re wondering about Brown’s answer:
“Uh, I hope so.”
