Heisley JUST NOW Questions Gasol Trade

In an article that is simply nothing more than the “DUH” news of the day, there’s an article on Yahoo Sports that features Grizzlies owner Michael Heisley beginning to think that he got ripped off in the Gasol trade

Below is the link to the article, but here’s a few gem quotes from Heisley in the article (after the link)

http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news;_ylt=An.u1AGRWJ22a9vXpSKbZEO8vLYF?slug=aw-heisleygasol060308&prov=yhoo&type=lgns

-“I don’t know if I got the most value,” Heisley confessed. “Maybe our people should’ve shopped (Gasol) more and maybe we would’ve gotten more, done a better deal. Maybe Chris did call every team in the league. I don’t think he did, but maybe he should’ve…”

and

“I don’t know if I got the most value,” he said.

In regards to the Gasol trade, the first is just priceless because he basically throws his GM under the bus, while in the second trade saying he doesn’t know if he got the most value.  The funny thing is basically the ENTIRE league knows that it’s Heisley who pullled the trigger and that Wallace simply executed the move.  I mean, isn’t Heisley a  businessman?  Isn’t one of the first practices of business is to find the best deal and shop around?  Yet, Heisley found it best to take the 1st deal he got from the Lakers, over a month before the trade deadline, where teams are most desperate and you are the one with the leverage over the suitors.

-”Chicago wouldn’t offer us any of their good, core players,” he said. “Our people told me that we weren’t able to get equal trade value for Gasol and that we needed to do a deal that would give us cap space and draft picks. It was no secret in the league that we were considering offers for him, but the Lakers were the one team that stepped up.”

This is Heisley’s quote right after the article says the proposed trade was Gasol and Hakim Warrick for “Andres Nocioni, Tyrus Thomas, Joakim Noah, Thabo Sefolosha, possibly Adrian Griffin and draft picks. ”

You know what, you’re right Heisley, all they did was offer you a whole benchful of young, developing players, but apparently “core” for Heisley=star because that deal wasn’t good enough.  I mean the Grizzlies biggest problem last season was depth and this deal would’ve given them a ridiculous bench.  I mean, the Grizzlies would have a roster full of young, developing players…maybe we should ask New Orleans how that worked out for them…But instead we’re left with cap space that will never be used because the team is losing boatloads of money because no one wants to see a team that is rebuilding again.

Anyways, just thought I would share this article and it’s hilarity/incompetence with Grizzlies fans while we watch our star helping guide another team to the NBA Finals.

Reading the Yahoo article makes the Grizzlies sound so dumb….. but if you read the this link you will see how Heisley is the ONLY idiot in Memphis “making the decisions”.

Honesty, I’m not sure if that article shows that he’s the only guy making decisions. I mean does he have THE FINAL decision, yes, but it’s not as if Heisley’s the one calling the GMs and making the trades. Wallace presented him with offers and he chose this one. I’m also inclined to believe that Wallace told him this was the best deal available without shopping it around much, so I think as much blame can be put on Wallace as Heisley, but still, this will go down as one of the worst trades in NBA history when all is said and done.
