“FIIRREE ISSIIAAHH”
As a die hard Knick fan I am always down to sit through an entire Knick game, even if they are getting blown out (which is frequent these days). However, last night playing host to the Warriors, once the 3rd quarter was done, I knew they had no shot. Baron Davis while from L.A. plays ball like everybody does in every park, in and around New York City(31 pts 6 reb 7 ast 2 st and 1 blk), and Isiah thought it was smart to start Stephonie Marbury against him (yes I meant to say Stephonie). I knew the Knicks were done.
I simply could not sit through another quarter of torture. Isiah at the podium after a 108-82 point trouncing while blaming the loss on himself was smiling?!?!. W-w-wait this is funny? Seven straight loses is funny? Losing the respect of your players is funny? Being unemployed by the Holiday season is funny? Eddy Curry going against Andris Biedrins and only getting 15 points is that really funny “Coach” Thomas?!?!?!?
When the Knicks started 2-1, there was nothing but optimism. When I was leaving the Knicks/Nuggets game at the Garden, on the LIRR, there was nothing but Knick fans yapping how good the team was. They were yapping how they had gelled over the last two years and now that we have Zach Randolph aka “Mr. Doubles”(15 pts and 16 rebs) and no more Channing “Softy” Frye we were going to the playoffs no doubt about it.
However, all of us forgot we still had the stupidest point guard in the league in Stephon Marbury to go along with the dumbest “coach” ever in Isiah Thomas. Isiah can’t draw up a play at the end of a game if his life depended on it. Which is why during the pitiful loss to the Warriors at the Garden the chants of “FIRE-ISIAH” started, wake up Dolan. It should have been followed up with a chant of “JEFF-VAN-GUNDY” because Dolan should re-hire the old coach who is ESPNing it these days. The Knicks need the defensive tenacity that Jeff’s old teams had. As long as Isiah is the coach of the Knicks they will never be a contending team, so the time is now for the Knicks to make a move before it is too late.

Hello Alex, good luck writing here.
I agree with everything you were saying. Van Gundy would be great right now. Marbury is terrible and I like that name you came up with. I have talked about how bad Marbury is and how they will not win with him leading the team for a long time now on this site and not many people agree with me. I also try to say isiah is a horrible coach and he should have been gone a long time ago.

I would like to talk to steve and paul again since last time they told me I didn’t know anything since I said the Knicks are no good when they lost to the Cavs. Who was right now steve? Paul?

Nice work Alex. Welcome to MVN. You’e going to be big here. Give me a shout if you need anything.
My Sixers aren’t looking too hot either. Storied franchises like these shouldn’t be this bad.

In my opinion, since we cant always believe what we hear from newspapers and internet. watching the knicks this season is enough to scratch your eyes out . There is no passion or intensity. Q-rich doesnt like to score , j-c cant play D and take over on offense when needed, and eddy curry plays D like he has cement feet. Marbury is ridiculous, he still doesnt get the team concept. We need a natural floor leader and playmaker, a point guard who could take a charge and create turnovers. Not a bunch of players who just let the other team score at will. The knick players need to take notes on the 90’s knicks defense and i do agree w/ bringing back van gundy. You could even keep thomas for drafting players ( only that! ). Trades are needed right away or else knick fans could forget about the season.

Wow! Alex,
I must say I’m not familiar with you but I can see already we are going to have to agree to dis agree on things.
1st, you’re right the Warriors game was not heart the 2nd nuggets game no passion, but the Phoenix game and the rest the boys played hard. Now we are a sorry team right now in A sorry state but to ask for Jeff Van Quitty is mind numbing.
That quack job is someone who took Riley’s team philosophy and players and milked it, the second when things started to crumble he ups and quits? And you want this clown to come back to this team? He couldn’t coach Stevie franchise pre injury, or even win w/ yoa and mcgrady. now they had injuries but they still under achieved hence he “ESPNing it”
If we must get rid of Isiah then bring in someone who will be able to bring some respectability and passion not some ole’ wack job who isn’t the better coah in the Van Gundy family.
PS look forward to more articles from ya, why did Paul leave anyway?

Welcome to MVN.
I agree with you that the Knicks need to get rid of Isiah and find someone decent.
Jeff Van Grundy would be a good option, but if I was in charge and could hire anyone, I’d hire Coach K from Duke.

Hey Ken,
Paul was awesome, but just didn’t have the time anymore. He’s teaching full-time and is engaged.
I think you’ll like Alex. You might not like his selection of Van Gundy, but at least he’s thinking of better times. And I don’t see why milking a system is a bad thing. Isn’t milking result in overachieving?

I never really got to say goodbye to all my loyal readers. For the last year, it was a pleasure writing on here and talking Knicks basketball with you.
Trust me when I say, while I do not have time to write right now, I will be a frequent reader and comment often on the articles.
Isiah must go, and until he does, it pains me to say, that I am basically cheering against them each night to lose, cause if this was to continue for another few games, there is no way he wont be fired.
Thanks again to all for making, Father Knickerbocker, a true pleasure to write on. Continue to be loyal to the site, and I will be a regular on here discussing things with all of you.
Alex…good luck…now it will be me, commenting on your articles.

Thanks for the time Paul, you did great. I enjoyed many discussions and arguments with you and I hope you still come around to give your opinion on trades, signings, and things like that.

Hi Paul my name is Muhammed and I am a die hard Knicks Fan I suppor them from Good Times to Bad Times. I would like to Know if the Knicks have a new coach and a new pointguard who would the pointguard be?
November 22nd, 2007 at 2:23 am
Completely correct. Isiah needs to go. While, you were able to turn off your TV set, I had the misfortune of being at this game and had no such luck. Luckily, I was able to chant “Fire Isiah” at the top of my lungs while Dolan was at the arena, meaning he must have heard it.
November 22nd, 2007 at 2:52 am
Tek, if I was at the Knicks game, I would be been chanting “Fire Isiah” alongside the New York fans.
I go for Suns, but I am a coach, and Isiah is an embarrassment. A good team losing is disappointing but I can live with that. Now that he cost the team more than $10 million for the sexual harrassment case, things have gone WAY too far.

For Ken the Apologist,
How can you call Jeff Van Gundy a quitter when Riley is the one who quit on the Knicks. He built the team promised championships and when things got tough and he couldn’t beat the Bulls he bolted for Miami. Jeff Van Gundy simply quit because there was no team. No matter who you are if you have Howard Eisley, Clearance Weatherspoon, Luc Longley, Shandon Anderson, an old Glen Rice, Travis Knight and you draft Fredric Wies instead of Ron Artest?!?!?!?! Come on you would quit as well.

First off i wanna say thank you to paul for all the articles and all the discussion we had, good luck in your endeavours.
Alex welcome to the site and thak you for your conribution.
As for the knicks, i have always been a supporter for Isiah Thomas but its obvious that its time for him to go. The team has quit on him. I think alot of the players are upset that he played Marbury in LA. Its time to let Isiah go, so who will coach the team and who will be the GM? Well Van Gundy seems like a nice choice but most knick fans would not sit well with this BUT what was Van Gundy good at? DEFENSE. His Knicks were basically carry over from pat riley; but Van gundy’s rockets were also a very good defensive team as well. For the GM/ President i would like to see Jerry Colangelo, Jerry West, or Kiki Vandewhe or Donnie Walsh those are the top three candidates i would like to see in that order. The coaches i would like to see are : Van Gundy, Coach K from Duke, or Herb Williams. My take is to forget about this season lets plan for next season or even the season after that. I say trade anyone except for Curry (we need a big man in the middle no matter how soft he is), Zach (he is a player) and David Lee (well we all know why). I would trade everone else that another team wants as long as the knicks take back a player with a shorter contract, and or a draft pick. I dont care if its a injured player we take back as long as he has an expiring contract or two years left on it. Thats my take on it

I’m tired of getting draft picks or expiring contracts the Knicks need to get a star and get a star now!!!!

Hey guys, longtime reader, first time actually commenting, goodluck paul! u did a great job here….been a knick fan the minute i understood basketball…n guys its been over 35 years! we’re cursed!!!..@ the end of every dissapointing season ( n how many has there been ) we say this is it …cant possibly get any lower, i now realize the pit is bottomless for my beloved organization…i still watch all games to the end….yes it’s true…i don’t even get dissapointed anymore…honestly it just hurts…..now Marbury sucks!….Crawford is overhyped…n i’m 5′-11″…n can bravely tell curry to his face U’re a Wuss!…..we currently have no player to build around…that 1 player with a balance of skill, knowledge of the game n character, the only team in the NBA without 1 as a fact of matter…actually those lack of qualities extend of the court into ownership…id trade anybody on the team (except z-bo) to get a kobe….i’d give the maloff’s any1 they wanted for artest…..whats makes curry untouchable??….19ppg n 6bds…lol ….n plz get Kiki or Colangelo plz plz…

Time for isaiah to go. Z-bo is good, but he really cant play defense. We should keep Lee. Guys like him are hard to find, I think. I dont think curry is necesarily the problem. He is what he is. he’s not what we want him to be, but what he is, does have advantages. Its coaching, folks. coaching is the problem. The Knicks have 2 options. get it down low to curry, or get it down to z-bo. Defenses are handling these two options very well, and the knicks dont have an answer when z-bo and eddie stall. When curry and zach are ineffective, and opposing teams start pulling away in the second half, the knicks look lost and have no idea what plays to run or what to do. The defense also looks lost when trying to defend the simplest things. Back door, give-n-go, pick-n-roll, the knicks seem totally unable to stop teams from executing simple 40 year old plays.
I’m telling you, guys are lost, they are not jelling, they swing the ball around endlessly trying to get an open shot or get it down low, and thats it. It looks bad.. I mean, it never changes.. there’s no creativity, there’s no fluidity, there’s no other plays in the offense that they seem to run. Its too easy to defend them. They are frustrated, their ability to play with emotion and heart is being replaced with feeling unhappy and not wanting to be there and with low confidence. The coach has to be replaced. I wonder if any coaches out there even want to walk into this mess, and take a job where your life and reputation can seemingly be so easily ruined.

Alex,
Riley quit b/c of his contract and not being able to have full control of the team. In hindsight maybe Ewing would have retired a KNick! Van Quitty, left mid season for some lame excuse. NO How quickly we forget about that boring team you listed and compared to what we have now we should be champs. That is why I like Isiah, he completely changed the team for the better. Now we have some hard times and maybe he has run his course, but Van Quitty? Please do not ever compare me to a quitter in that manner. I would not have left my troops mid-season like that. Van Gundy had a problem with some of the trrades and his way of showing up the front office was to quit. I would rather Issiah finsh out his contract b4 seeing him back.
