WELCOME COACH D’ANTONI!!
According to ESPN Mike D’Antoni has accepted the coaching position with the New York Knickerbockers. Lucky him? Well not exactly he inherits an organization in disarray. Although, with some draft lottery luck (which would hopefully equal PG D-Rose of Memphis) and D’Antoni’s up-tempo offensive system the Knicks could land in the playoffs as early as next season. It is the (L)eastern Conference after all.
Getting in at the 8th seed is getting in and from then on it’s like the New York Lottery ”Hey You Never Know.” Just look at how well the Hawks - led by the under rated Joe Johnson - played against the powerful Celtics taking them to 7 games. If D’Antoni takes the Knicks to the playoffs next year he will be a God in New York City.
I am happy to be settling for a great coach like Mike D’Antoni even though I would have liked to see them get a big mouth in your face coach like Avery Johnson. Also no disrespect to Mark Jackson but I am happy Mr. Walsh did not go with him. I sound like a broken record when I say it but Jackson has no coaching experience. How about assistant coach Mark Jackson? How about assistant coach Patrick Ewing?
It also boggles my mind how you can hire a coach before you hire a GM. A newly acquired GM can come in here and clash with D’Antoni. However, before us fans start get ahead of ourselves we should actually sit back and learn to trust our management aka Donnie Walsh not James Dolan. It’s an odd concept but Knick fans we have a great coach in here, a President who knows what he is doing and high draft pick coming so keep your fingers crossed we get lucky in the lottery. Soooooooooooooo GO NY!! GO NY GO!!!

This is not my first chioce here. I though Walsh should have waited. D’Antoni is only coming here because the Bulls would not match the $$$$. That makes me wonder if he really knows what he is getting into. All of that being said, I will keep at least as open a mind on this as I did with Zeke. We will see what happens. The press conference next week should be interesting.

MJ,
Are you comparing this to the larry brown hiring? cuz if you r it’s a fair point and great comparison even if there’s a different president running the show.

Not my first choice as coach buy i will hold my opinions until i see all the moves mr walsh is going to make. Obviously i think there will be some player movements. As of right now Things are looking awesome for Starbury, Crawford, Balkman,Lee, Chandler and Nate because these are the kind of players that can strive in D’antoni’s system. The likes of Curry and zach isnt looking to good right now. Put ur seat belts on we are in for a ride

Like I said before this is a great move for the Knicks organization. I’m in the Air Force and a Unit is only as strong as it’s leadership, well this applies to all walks of live. If your not strong at the top you will be weak at the bottom… look around the Sports World, look at teams that win in Sports… The proof is in the pudding, yeah I know D’Antoni didn’t win in the playoffs with the Suns, but damn he had to play them Spurs every year and last time I checked the rest of the L is having a hard time beating them too (I know I know they down 2-1, but dont count them out). Bottom line is we are better today then we were 2months ago. We got Walsh and Mike to great basketball minds as opposed to Thomas running this great organization into the ground. Who know maybe we get lucky and land Rose (Think Chris Paul) or Beastly (Think KG) and from there you never know…3yrs from now Bron Bron/Bosh/Wade there’s a good possibility one of those big names ends up in NY… The NBA needs the Knicks to be the Knicks again and ladies and gents this is the man to get us going in the right direction even if he might not be the one there when we reach the TOP!

my two-cents.
I like d’antoni but where’s the “d”?
and, this knicks team is no-where near the talent and professionalism of the suns team.
That said, It’s a big upgrade. With D-walsh running the show, we know the roster will be remolded and rebuilt to reflect the kind of team that can run d’antoni’s system and hopefully play defense. Essentially, in a few years, d’antoni wont really be coaching this squad, it’ll be mostly new player’s that fit the new philosophy. Let’s be honest, D’antoni is the best choice out of all the coaches that were available. Think about it. so far, so good mr.walsh.
I’ll bet the players are excited about it. an offense where guys arent lost and dont know what to do.
