Draft Day Update
Sorry there was no post until now but I don’t get out of work till 10:30 p.m. so… Today was the lottery to determine the first 14 picks of the upcoming NBA draft. The Knicks ended up with the #6 pick overall which Mike D’Antoni looked upset about. The Chicago Bulls were awarded the #1 overall pick against all odds and you can be sure that Derrick Rose will be running point for his home town for years to come unless the Knicks can somehow pull off a monster trade to move all the way up to the top.
At this point you have to be realistic and say both Rose and Beasley will not be around at #6. Don’t be overly surprised if OJ Mayo now jumps to the front of D’Antoni’s list. Either way, the draft board is now wide open for the Knickerbockers. Get ready to hear a lot of trade scenarios. I also wouldn’t be surprised to see Brandon Rush targeted in the 2nd round.
On a side note, I just want to give a shout out to the new Knicks regime. I was happy when Donnie Walsh came in but not overly excited. When he hired D’Antoni I was a little disappointed because he wasn’t my first choice. However, I have to admit I haven’t been this excited for a draft lottery ever. I know good things are going to happen under our new leadership and I caught myself peeking at the team symbols as they came out of the envelopes hoping the Knicks would end up on top. It didn’t happen but just the fact that my interest was peaked lets me know this team is on its way up. Anyone else nervous during the lottery today or were you too busy watching Mike Mussina give up 7 runs in .6 innings?

I was watching it at the gym as i worked out i yelled at the TV in the gym and everyone looked at me. At 6 i think the knicks have a number of options. I dont see a trade up i think its easier to trade down and still pick up an impact player. If we stay at 6 i would like Danilo the kid from italy i have a good feeling about him i dont know y its just a gut feeling. if we trade down possible teams we can trade with are clippers, bucks, bobcats and still be able to pick guys like Danilo, Jordan, Randolf.

Also I heard the romurs of carmelo to the nets and that had me thinking what about the following:
Nuggets send Carmelo, camby and Green to the knicks
Knicks send Marbury, 6th pick, D Lee

You really think the Bulls are definitely taking Rose? I’m thinking they might take Beasley…Hinrich is a legit point guard. If they do take Rose, what happens to Hinrich. Same question for the Heat if the Bulls take Beasley.

Jay to the Son- I cant see the [Nuggets send Carmelo, camby and Green to the knicks/Knicks send Marbury, 6th pick, D Lee] trade happening. However, I agree with you about trading down and about Danilo. I wouldn’t be surprised for a second to see players from europe more and more on the roster with D’Antoni’s style and experience overseas.
Mark-Thats not true because Wade is better when he doesn’t have to bring the ball up. If you put Rose at point dishing to Wade and Marion the Heat are significantly better. However, when it comes to the Bulls or the Heat either Beasley or Rose will make an impact on their teams.

Danilo! are you guys fucking crazy… A good feeling? people kill me with that dumb shit, you never see this asshole play a game and if you say you saw more then an ESPN reel your full of shit. I rather trade down 5 slots and have Chris Douglas-Roberts if i’m going to take a flyer…. Russell Westbrook has got to be the pick we Still need a PG and Bayless will be gone by the time we pick. People still fall in love with players just because they play overseas and they never seen them play I DONT GET THIS! oh, sure ESPN likes to tell you he’s long has a 7-4 wingspan, he can handle the rock… blah, shit, blah, shit, blah. People still for for all that BS, pick according to what we seen with our own eyes.

I would like to trade down and get a shot at Russell Westbrook because he is a very good defender and he can run and pass. I don’t know if anybody will trade up though.
P.S. D’Antoni used to coach in Italy and Danilo is from Italy so don’t be shocked if he is the pick.

FYI, we don’t have a 2nd rounder this year; Isiah dealt it for the rights to Demetrius Nichols (#54 pick overall, 2007) on draft day last year.

say bayless and mayo are gone at 6…..what about taking kevin love or anthony randolph?

Trade the pick and Zach to Philly for Philly’s pick and Dalembart, then take either D.J. Augustin, Roberts, Rush, or sorry Ivan the Italian guy (if he still there). If anybody knows anything about the Italian guy, it’s D’Antiono, he roomed with his father.

First, Matt I must say I found myself looking at the logos on the card too. With that said, I did not walk away encouraged or excited about the season and here’s why.
Walsh comes in to this position and everybody is like what a great move for us. I’m like what did he do to earn this amount of admiration? pick R. miller? Rik Smits? decent but no rings, however I he appears to be a quality guy that is liked and well received by media and other GMs around the league.
Walsh then turns around and pulls the same act that everyone berated Thomas for…He backed up the Brinks truck and gave Dantoni 6 mil/yr for 4 years. Dantoni, I don’t care what he is saying now was going to the Bulls and I now believe he told them he had no interest in the knicks. So he stiffs the Bulls for the loot alone why else come to NY?
Well, b/c of that nonsense we get the #6 pick and the Bulls are sitting pretty at #1. How you like them apples? So I thinking the bad luck continues to haunt us. I mean had we gotten the #5 pick we still have a chance at Bayless or Mayo, but now I think we need to trade the pick and completely unload as much dead weight as possible, tank the season like the HEat did and Clevand did when they got Lebron. And hope for the best in next years lottery.
Why is that? The Heat tanked their season made horrible moves and it’s the Knicks who gets ripped a new one for winning 23 games? Wade isn’t hurt as bad as they made it seem, but yet he gets a pass. My only hope for us now is for the Nets to get Carmelo, that would all but gurantee Lebron joing us in 2010. Until then I guess I’ll just continue to be a torchered Knick fan.

I like Westbrook as the pick, I think he would flourish in D’Antoni’s system.
May 21st, 2008 at 3:34 pm
do you see Eric Gordon being gone as well?
May 21st, 2008 at 10:25 pm
My Rankings:
1. Anthony Randolph
2. Russell Westbrook
3. DeAndre Jordan
4. Chris Douglas-Roberts
I would love to get CDR somehow but he’s not worth the 6th pick. If Walsh got another 1st rounder somehow so we could get CDR then I would go CRAZY!!! He would fit D’Antoni’s system better then anyone else and would become a star.
May 21st, 2008 at 10:35 pm
If we go with Randolph then maybe we can trade into the 2nd round for a PG like Lester Hudson or Mario Chalmers.

HABS INSIDE OUR site says Kniggerbockers will fail like NYC as there is too much colors there.

I think both Douglas-Roberts and Brandon Rush could do very well in D’Antoni’s system.
I’d love a trade down with NJ where we send our pick (#6) and a player or two for their two 1st round picks.

Gianthinker- I like that maybe we can unload a fat contract like Zach or Q for there picks and some expiring contracts or players with shorter contract. The nets might like it because they could try and entice the nuggets with the 6th pick.
BTW is someone else using my handle? i didnt write that the above comment at may 22, 10 49.

My dream draft would be to get a PG and another player that can run and play in D’Antoni’s system.
*D’Antoni’s system player*
Randolph, Jordan, Douglas-Roberts, Arthur, Batum, Walker, Dorsey, Jefferson
*Point Guard*
Westbrook, Chalmers, Hudson, Lawson, Nelson, Weaver
May 22nd, 2008 at 11:53 pm
I really love PG D.J. Augustin as well but we cant take him unless we move down in the 1st.
May 24th, 2008 at 8:11 pm
I say proceed as if we wont get lebron in 2010, I say sign and trade for Monta Ellis, by sending them Roses expiring contract. Trade Zach for Abdul rahim and Kenny Thiomas of the kings and buy them out. Trade the 6th and nate or chandler to new jersey for the number 10 and 21st pick and draft Gallinari or Jordan or Randolf kid if avaiulable and with the 21st pick take CDR or Marreese Speights or Nicolas Batum
May 24th, 2008 at 11:39 pm
Wow Jay, thats complex but if you can do all of those things you can have the GM job. Someone call Donnie Walsh! We have a candidate over here!!!
May 25th, 2008 at 10:19 am
gianthinker - not complex just multi layered lol. I think it makes alot of sense and it would jump start the rebuilding process.Starting 5 would be :
PG Ellis/Crawford
SG Crawford/CDR
SF Gillanari/CDR/Balkman
PF Lee/Gallinari/Jefferies
C Curry/Lee
I would buy out marbury just because i dont want him currpting the team esp bc he wouldnt get much playing time and he would sulk, it would have been nice to have him coming of the bench but i doubt he would go for that. That line up may ot get us to the playoffs but it would give us hope. I like that line up cause its a young squad that can grow together and have players with very good potntial
