Rockets back down to Earth; Sizzling run finally ends

Well, who said they were going to win them all anyway?   The Boston Celtics, not-so-fresh after a close nailbiting win in San Antonio, came to Houston for their 2nd stop in their Texas Trifecta roadie, and did what nobody else has been able to since gasoline was $2.50 a gallon - beat the Houston Rockets in a basketball game.  Hey, it was going to happen sooner or later.  Better it was against the best defense in the game and the best TEAM in the league.  Good lord, they are 22-4 against the teams in the West.  Yes, I’ll say that right now - Boston is the best team in the NBA without a doubt; worthy of championship discussion.

“In my 11 years in the NBA, that’s the best defense I’ve ever seen,” Tracy McGrady said afterward.

Kevin Garnett, when told of that comment, was truly moved by TMAC’s statment and acknowledged it when asked by a locker room reporter..   “That’s a hell of a statement. Thank you.”

Since then, Houston dropped another to a number one team; this time to New Orleans who then found themselves best in the Wild, Wild West.  Tonight, it’s Golden State - another potential clash with a playoff hopeful that could spell trouble for Houston.  The first loss seems to have taken some swell from their sails, and the team doesn’t look as fierce as they used to.  TMAC isn’t scoring as well as he probably should for $20 mill a year.  What was working isn’t working anymore and something needs to change to put this team back on the winning front.  Help is on their side in that other West teams are also losing games and it’s just a mess in the Western standings. 

Los Angeles (as of this writing) is back in first, but that could change 2-3 times this weekend.  Hey, just as long as Utah stays below Houston in the standings and MAKES the playoffs.  I just want the opportunity at payback with both them and Dallas.  There’s that 40-pt game 7 craw still sticking in me that needs a little tending to and anytime Utah is in it, I’m a huge fan.  I just can’t wait for the seedings to finalize so I can begin predicting when that matchup might take place.  There will be nothing on my mind other than beating the Jazz.  Nothing.  Sorry bout that, Wife, but you  knew that when you married me.

Good for the Lakers to stop that Utah home winning streak, too. 

Carl Landry is hoping to return this week, after being out since March 8th with a bruised knee.  Man, they need him.

I mean, after all.  With him, they could win out, right?  

Right?  There’s only 14 games left.  Piece of cake.  Houston’s already done 22 in a row this year.  This should be simple.

Great run, guys.   We’ll remember this for a long time and it will be the barometer by which modern-day basketball teams are measured from here on out.  Last note to you “fans” that don’t give Houston the credit for what they just accomplished and provided to their fans for 22 consecutive games, and most of those were blowout wins.

Michael Jordan never won more than 12 games in a row (I heard on ESPN).

They might not win the championship this year, but they provided one of the best stories of the year for the NBA.
