Could Raptors Trade Calderon?

There is a problem in Toronto- they have two point guards in Jose Calderon and TJ Ford. Calderon found out that he is capable of starting when he had to fill in for the injured Ford.

Now, he won’t accept anything less than the starting point guard spot, he told a Spanish newspaper. Luckily, there was no indication that he was going to be a major distraction, until now, in the Toronto Sun from the Spanish article:

“I’ve been two years with him but I don’t know if I could be another year because things would have to change.”

This is him talking about Ford. Ya, that doesn’t sound very good, and I’m not sure if the Raptors can keep both of these men around.

Calderon is a restricted free agent on July first, but very few teams have enough cap-space to sign him, only being able to give him a mid-level offer. Therefore, a sign and trade seems like the most likely scenario, as teams could drop some salary and give it to Toronto.

The team the most interested might be the Clippers, who could give up Corey Maggette. This would be a pretty good trade for both sides.

The interest in Calderon wouldn’t be overwhelming, but it would certainly be more than Ford. If they want to separate these two, trading Calderon or just letting him sign with someone else could be the only way.

New York and Miami seem like very logical destinations for sign and trades. And Im sure Dan Toni is more appealing than Spoelstar (sp?).

3 year at mid-exception which I think is around 5-6 million sounds about right although Im sure he will be looking for 4 years.

A young team like Portland would need an older leader but the feeling in Spain over Rudy Fernandez is that Nate isnt very euro-friendly. I will skip what they call Sam Michelle in Barcelona. Dumb xenophobe asshat with no game plan is the nicest. (hey, this is the guy who gave the cold shoulder to his italian kid during a 3-4 week slump that took the kid down. Kid played SF his whole life. Played some at PF last year and this year he played Center for the FIRST TIME IN HIS LIFE and couldnt adjust to playing back to the rim. He didnt pull him but he DIDNT TALK TO HIM, the kid sank deeper and deeper and winter came and that was the season. Michelle is an idiot.)

Oh yes, I want to be on a team that has Ford and Maggette pounding the ball. What Steve Francis wasnt free?

i think that calderon could go for a rugged rebounder which the raptors solely need
