Warriors split with Lakers, Denver closing in

The Warrior’s lost a heart-breaker 123-119 against the Lakers in the second half of a back-to-back Monday. After blowing a big halftime the Dubs, they staged a late rally to send the game to OT. Lamar Odom hit a layup with under ten seconds to go in the extra period and a questionable Monta Ellis offensive foul on the final inbound iced the game.

The call drew the ire of the Warrior’s broadcasters and a rain of boos form the crowd. Late in the game it was clear that Don Nelson’s squad was gassed from playing three games in four days.

Sunday LA staged a massive comeback but Stephen Jackson nailed a pair of threes to keep the Lakers from taking a lead. Jackson had 31 points and six total threes and rookie Brandan Wright rejected three shots.

Kobe had a monster game with 36 points, 14 rebounds and eight assists.

Kelenna Azubuike was key both nights. His defense on Kobe was important on Sunday while on Monday he looked to score and came up with 18 points.

The two large blown leads are alarming but seeing the team not fall apart after giving up the lead is a good sign.

The loss cut the Warrior’s lead in the standings to just half a game. In their next ten games they will be facing some of the West’s best teams, so it’s imperative that they not begin stringing together losses.
