Golden State Warriors: Questions all that remain for off season

Image details: Golden State Warriors v Los Angeles Lakers served by picapp.com
Talk has already started about B-Diddy leaving the team

Ellis and Biedrins are free agents, Barnes is probably on his way out, Davis may opt out of his contract and leave, and there’s always the possibility that Nelson will again retire. What?!?! The best season since the 50 win ‘93-’94 season and just like that season, it’s ending in frustration and turmoil.

Recently, I wrote an article detailing the ironic similarities between this team and that 50 win team, but I never thought the irony would extend past the season. It’s reported that if Baron Davis opts out of his contract, the Warriors will only have $29 million on the books this off season. That could give them enough room to be next years’ Celtics if they import the right players.

The possibility of remaking the team to be better than ever is an optimistic thought, and with the uncertainty of the future, there can be little room for optimism. Who will be the Warriors go-to players next year? Who will coach those players? Will the young group from the past four drafts ever step up and lay claim to this team? Will it take another 13 year drought before the Warriors make the playoffs again? These are questions that need to be answered, and soon.

Until that happens, Warriors fans shouldn’t hold their breath for another ‘We Believe’ moment.

So much for Nelson saying that they needed to sign Webber to make the playoffs!

Yeah, no kidding. I’ve got a post for that one, but let me just say that I always thought that was a joke.

Keeping Baron Davis is kind of like keeping an old classic Porsche car that you own. Dont want to let it go, cause its a classic. But everytime it conks out and you have to bring it in for repairs, then you swear you want to get rid of it. Then you pick it up from the shop and it runs great again and looks great and you have good feelings. …. Same thing with Baron. We all love Baron. He is magical and many times incredible. But we need to trade the old Porsche for something new, maybe a new BMW would be smart!

I really would have liked to see the Warriors matched up with the Lakers in the first round. Denver can bring some of the season excitment, but their lack of defense will make it a fast series. Golden State proved they can play defense when it matters, like we saw vs. Dallas last season. Just not enough leeway to lose games down the stretch.

Hey, Jon, you’ve got it a little wrong. What Nelson said was, “I don’t think we can make the playoffs without Weber.” He couldn’t have been more right. You can’t blame Nelson because Weber couldn’t do it. He had to try. Warriors fans have to get real. They didn’t have the horses to get to the playoffs, and as much as I hate to admit it, Barkley kept saying they’ll be “One and done.” He was also right. Now, it’s time to look forward and see what can be done for next year. We still need a legitimate power forward, and some shooters. Baron and Jackson have dramatic moments, but they clank too many shots to be really effective.

Satch, I think maybe Jon’s right and you’re the one who’s got it a little wrong. The point isn’t that Nelson was right that they wouldn’t make the playoffs without Webber; it’s that it was abundantly obvious that there was NO WAY that signing Webber was going to get them there, either. C’mon, the guy could barely get up and down the floor!

From a purely basketball sense, I can’t believe C Webb was the most compelling, most promising choice for a mid-season pickup - that there was *nobody* still unsigned and sitting on the sidelines or playing the D-League that didn’t have more upside and potential impact than an aging, rusty, out-of-shape dude with bad knees (no disrepect to Webber).

It *was* great PR though, and served to bring some kind of closure to the Nellie/Webber rift which, aside from the lack of a champship, is one of the few blots on Nelson’s legacy. God love Nellie, he’s the only guy who’s produced watchable, exciting Warriors basketball over the last couple of decades; but I really have to believe that’s what it was about.

i agree with you killer b. but now we have to look into the offseason. they need to move up in the draft or trade their pick if they wan’t anything legit from being a lottery team. they really need kevin love also and i would trade anything besides andris wright ellis jackson buike and a few others to get him.if they don’t get a good pf this summer they are doomed next year.
