Golden State Warriors: Rolling at the Rocky Mountain Revue
The first thing I wondered after looking at the box score to the Warriors first victory in Utah was, “Who are these guys?” Turns out, the Warriors handily beat the Nets with a bunch of guys who’ve never played a regular season game for Golden State. What’s impressive is that they did it in the classic Nellie style of play without Don Nelson coaching them. Instead Sidney Moncrief manned the helm and the young guys took care of their business in a convincing 108-84 blowout.
Six guys scored in double figures while second round pick, Richard Hendrix, posted a double double with 12 rebounds. Combined with first rounder, Anthony Randolph, the two snatched 20 total rebounds and scored 26 points. Start thinking about a front court of Biedrins at center, Hendrix at power forward, and Randolph at the small forward spot, and you start wondering how many rebounds these guys could produce night in and night out. The possibilities are exciting!
The top scorers on the day were Dion Dowell with 20 points and Anthony Morrow with 23. The top assist guy was DeMarcus Nelson, no relation to Don, with 6 and second to him was Randolph with 5. Other guys in double figures were Rob Kurz (18 pts.) and Jamont Gordon (10 pts.).
On a side note, former Stanford standout Brook Lopez 16 points and pulled down 6 rebounds for the Nets. He also had 3 blocked shots.
The Warriors are playing the Mavericks today and can be seen live at the Summer League Central page on the Warriors site.
