Les Bullez

Nearly An Official Travesty

I’m usually not one to blame the officials for losses.   Well, okay, I have been known to do that, but the Wizards could have been completely and utterly robbed of a victory on Wednesday night on an atrocious call.

They led by 5 points with about 2 minutes to go when Ray Felton missed a free throw.  Caron Butler got the rebound and was immediately pressed by Gerald Wallace.  Butler just leaned into Wallace to get some room when Wallace flopped to the floor like he was shot.  The ref was standing right there and called an offensive foul.  It was horrendous.  The Bobcats hit a 3 on their “gift” of a possession and ended up sending the game to overtime.  The refs just have to get some criticism for calls like those.

Now give the Wiz credit, they came back and won a HUGE game.  They played well all night.  They continued to do what they have been doing and Caron Butler bounced back from a poor outing last night with a career high 39 points.  Yeah, the Wizards got a little tight late in the overtime with a lead.  They had trouble getting the ball inbounds and wasted a few timeouts that could have cost them, but they played great defense on Charlotte’s second to last possession, when the lead was just three.  Antonio Daniels had another strong game running the point.  These guys look good.

This was a statement game for this team and they were able to escape with the win.  Be proud. They have won 6 in a row and the Bobcats are not the pushovers they have been in the past.  Plus, this was the second of a back to back and it was on the road.  That’s impressive no matter who you play.

Let’s see if they can make it 7!

Yeah, that call was absolutely horrible. There was a close-up shot of the ref when he called that bullsh*t and he looked like he truly enjoyed calling it. I guess that’s home court advantage for ya.

Regardless, Caron Butler and the WIzards would not be denied a win. As I’ve mentioned in previous articles, I think this Caron Butler/Jamison led Wizards team may be better than the Agent Zero version. Sure, we’ll miss his scoring, but now the team has to pass the ball around more instead of just standing around watching Gilbert do his thang. Once we get Haywood and Big Pech back (should be around mid-December), our front court will be set and as long as Daniels continues his efficient play, we will beat more teams than one might think…
